I know Sandals is the big one, but I'd rather not pay for the name. What are other good, reputable all inclusive brands I should look into that cost less than your average Sandals?

Stayed at Excellence El Carmen in DR 2 weeks ago.

Service was incredible. Grounds really nice. Food good. So I can say the Excellence brand is a good one not as expensive.

Going to Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal next week so I will find out if they are nice or not..

Just got back from Majestic in Costa Mejures. It was awesome, but I’m looking for more of the Bahamas or Turks for our next one.

Is Excellence fully inclusive or do that charge for premium things such as the higher end restaurants on property?

Fully Inclusive.

Although at some of the al a carte restaurants, they have wine for purchase.

We saw a resort in punta cana called Melia Caribe that was very affordable. Anyone have experience with this resort or hotel brand?

Appears to have good reviews on Trip Advisor which is where i usually look at first for reviews and traveler photos.

We went there in February 2020 and enjoyed it. It’s a huge complex of properties so there’s plenty to see. The adults only pool is the place to be, at least when we were there. A bunch of canucks escaping winter got pretty spun up everyday. Enjoy. It’s a haul from CUN.

To the OP, travelers reviews are going to be your best friend. Even within a particular brand there can be big differences in properties. That is age, location, etc…. I wouldn’t just shop one brand, find a search in your price range and location, and study the reviews.

We stayed at Melia Caribe in Punta Cana a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic. The only reason we might not go back next year is to try a different island. The resort is massive. It was $1800 for a week. All inclusive, including alcohol. Bartenders and wait staff were awesome. Property is massive but you can catch a trolley or golf cart. Beach and pools were great. The landscaping was incredible. Some of the other resorts we looked into in Punta Cana seemed sparse in the way of palms and shade. But there was a ton of shade just from the trees alone. Might not be a big deal to some but I love that tropical feel. Wasn’t overcrowded at all. For restaurants get Alma, Hacienda and Capri as soon as you can. They’re good. Get the stuffed peppers with carrot mash from Alma. We had a 9 year old but the adult only pool was really nice and quiet. But if you do have kiddos, pretty nice water park.

Very interested in Excellence DR as that’s the one carribean area we haven’t been to. Looked at prices and saw a base room in the summer for 5 nights is ~$1800. That’s so much lower than I was expecting for a nice all inclusive I thought something was wrong. Maybe I’m just used to the BS Sandals prices
