Where to stay on the way to Fredericksburg Tx

I have a hunt booked in Fredericksburg with an arrival time on a Sunday afternoon. Will be driving from Mandeville area on Saturday around noon. I am looking for a place to stay with the wife overnight on Saturday. Would like somewhere about 3 hours or so from Fredericksburg. Not really fond of Houston which would be the obvious choice. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Round Top if you want quiet rural with some shops and handful of restaurants. New Braunfels if you want more action but it’s not on the direct route. Wimberley could be a good spot too.
Austin is the obvious choice but it’s inside your self imposed 3 hr window.

Brenham fits your timeline.
If you go to Roundtop check out the Roundtop Inn. Walking distance to town and a relaxing place to waste some time. The only warning is check the date for an antique show or wine tasting event. The town really fills up on those weekends.

Would be closer, but Gruene is a good place. Catch a show at Gruene Hall. There is a bed and breakfast right by it that is really good.

Is it a small town with no hotels or why don't you want to sleep in comfort for a while?
