When do we think we will see the return of Europe airfare deals?

I think its going to be a minute.
Used to regularly see sales, 2-3 times a year at least, where you could get fares in the 400-600 range.
I was reading an article yesterday about just how fricked the industry is right now, compounding from Covid on down. Tons of the largest planes are grounded, they don't have the crews, they don't have the pilots, airports don't have the employees, fuel prices are absolutely screwed, and demand is WAY up with people willing to pay crazy prices for flights just to get away. China being still largely shut down to international travel is also gumming up the works quite a bit.
And the airlines really don't need or want to encourage more people to fly long routes.
I think its going to be 2-3 years at least before we see them regularly. I'm too cheap to pay 1000+ for economy Europe fares when I've been spoiled by low rates in the past. May just end up using miles I have been saving.

We still see these regularly out of DFW. Flew for 500 to Switzerland in November. A website promoting cheap DFW flights recently had Greece in that range and London for like 650.

They were doing them back in November but my understanding is the industry has spiraled a bit since then and Demand is WAY WAY WAY up, so don't expect to see them soon.
Just curious what others are seeing or hearing.

I hear ya on November, but we are seeing them now like my Athens and London examples. I saw those this week. Not sure if other US cities are seeing those fares to Europe though.

There's deals out there now. We are looking to go to Paris in November for 2 weeks and I've been tracking like crazy. There are sub $550 flights from Chicago, Orlando, Dulles, DFW, etc. One from ATL but not ideal times or direct, so I'm being patient.
I think the big problem right now is the connecting flights, tons of problems and delays there.
With the economy though, I just don't see a ton of interest for this fall and winter to go to Europe so Im fairly confident some deals will come around to fill the seats as those flights HAVE to fly- they aren't canceling them.

Definitely not seeing them from MSY.
May have to start searching hub airports and then seeing if I can book separate cheap flights.
I'm seeing relatively good deals to Barcelona (690ish), but that's about it.

Yeah I agree. I saw a Chicago to London for like $390? It was under $400 so that surprised me.
My wife is convinced prices won't come down, but they've stayed steady so I told her no reason to book.
I was looking around to compare other routes to show her there's deals out there, we just gotta wait for our airport options to get one.
Now, whether the deals happen everywhere...IDK.

One thing that is an issue for me is we are going against our general rule: Don't have a particular destination in mind. We just look and see what the flight prices are and when we see one we like to a place we wouldn't mind going to, we do it.
My wife has a particular destination in mind. I think the plan is just find a good flight to Europe and then book a cheap connector.

I recommend not doing this going over. Depending on where you are going, but definitely try not to do it to a hub that has a lot of direct flights from the USA.
Reason being, is if you fly direct from the USA to your europe destination you can get in between 7am and 10am (give or take). If you take a connector in Europe, you are often talking 12-2pm to your final destination. By the time you go through customs, get to the hotel ,etc. you are not only extra worn out but you don't have much time. You are ready for bed, but its only like 5pm.
The first 2 days in Europe are so much more enjoyable when you land directly in europe from the USA at your final destination. Its worth $200 or more a ticket IMO as your time over there is valuable. I'm cheap, but getting more time on vacation is worth money. Just a thought.

I'm seeing prices in the $600-$700 range from MSY, but that's with flexible dates.

I'm looking April-September. Not seeing much of that except to Spain.

I basically write off landing day as it is. If I accomplish something that day, that's cool, but not required.
In fact, if I could I'd prefer a flight that arrives at 5pm-ish so I can just relax and go to bed.
Last trip I got to Zagreb at like 9am and was dragging by mid-afternoon. In my younger years I'd be hitting the booze all day

Anyone have some good sites to follow?

I was going to ask the same. I have monthly meetings I have to attend so I’m not super flexible, but we are flexible on destinations.
TIA

I like the site FareDrop. Worth the $39/year for full features. Set your destination targets and local airport and you constantly get deals via emails. Track and verify via Google Flights.
Also, love the app "Hopper".
Deals are out there. You just need to do some research and be able to move on them when you see them.

Of 2023? I think that's too far out for a good deal? Especially right now with the future so uncertain with fuel prices, labor, and the economy.

Thanks will look into that site for travel.

I can't recommend Google flights enough for finding deals, especially if you don't live in a major hub as the deal websites generally focus on the hubs.
All you need is a gmail account and you can set endless flight trackers. If I have a trip a long way off, I'll often times set a flight tracker for similar dates 60-90 days prior to my trip. Deals for 60-90 days earlier will often come up first, so it helps me gauge what I can most expect for when I'm traveling. Now, this isn't fool proof and obviously something like peak summer may be different then September.
