United Gold but I may switch to AA if we start going back to the Caribbean a few times a year like we used to do for those direct flights from MIA. I can also fly RSW-DCA direct on American for business.

Former Delta Diamond, now EXP with AA.

It's all the same.

I have 188,000 AA and 213,00 delta miles… I’ve used delta miles before but need to find a trip soon, prefer delta.

I'm United Gold since I moved to Houston a few years ago.

I was always Southwest before moving here. Still think Southwest is the best airline & rewards program, but I live too close to Bush & can't justify driving to Hobby.

The new AA qualification system is terrible and confusing unless you plan to put a large amount of spend on an AA credit card.

I should be United Gold or Platinum this year only because of consolidated flying out of IAD whereas I used to fly out of DCA regularly as well. The benefits across the various programs are largely standardized as it is.

I like flying Delta the best, but from New Orleans it is tough to use. I don't like flying through Atlanta to go West.

I used to really like my Chase Sapphire Preferred for its flexibility. However, recent changes there have really made it a lot more difficult.

frick AA. I hated flying to Seattle during the mask mandates.

I was an Exac Platinum with AA when the COVID thing had just started. I was sitting in First drinking a cocktail when a flight attendant from the back walked up and started screaming at me. I had my mask on my leg, this was when it was no mask if you were eating or drinking, and she just lost her shite. The first class attendant had to pull her away. It was bizarre honestly.

I reported it and was actually called back by their HR Department who related that they had multiple complaints against her. I felt better. Two weeks later it happened on a different flight with a (obviously) different flight attendant.

I quit flying AA that day and have been Delta since. But it is damn hard to progress in the Delta system. Nowhere near the number of upgrades and I am having trouble breaking out of Gold status. They have spend qualifications that are quite a bit higher than AA it seems.

United MileagePlus (Premier Platinum). I live on the Blue Line in Chicago, so an easy ride to ORD. My typical routes are BOS, LGA and SFO, so it was an easy choice of program.

Yeah, as someone said they're mostly the same. It's all about direct flights for me. I hate connections.

It’s not confusing at all, but you are correct that CC spend is a pain.

It’s loyalty points now
$1 of CC spend = 1 LP

Also

The following points per dollar spent on base fare
AAdvantage® Member
Earns 5 miles per dollar
AAdvantage Gold
Earns 7 miles per dollar
AAdvantage Platinum
Earns 8 miles per dollar
AAdvantage Platinum Pro
Earns 9 miles per dollar
AAdvantage Executive Platinum
Earns 11 miles per dollar

So a $500 base fare ticket as an EXP yields 5,500 LPs. If you use your AA CC, you would yield another 500 LP and 3,000 AAdvantage miles.

Status Requirements
Gold is 30k
Plat is 75k
PPro is 125k
EXP is 200k

What does it get you:
-Upgrades on any domestic flight
-Free MCE seats
-Free checked bags
-Priority check in
-Priority luggage
-priority boarding
-LP rewards (admirals club passes, etc)

(The higher the status the better the benefit)

If you just used your AA co-branded card, yes. If you spend $6,000 on flights as a non-elite you would also yield 30,000 LP.

I fly out of the small regional airport via AA if feasible, if not I usually use United or Southwest. I only fly 5 or 6 times a year though so the mileage isn't really a deciding factor for me. I do like to transfer chase points to Flying Blue or United for international flights though. I used Amex for Singapore Air for lie-flat business cubicals for IAH -> MAN most recently though

My preferred mile program is Alaska. My local airport is an Alaska and Delta hub, but Alaska is the better airline with more direct flights. It’s also cheaper to fly despite being better quality and with a newer fleet.

As Buckeye said, the best is the one with the most direct flights out of your airport, your goals, needs, credit card spend, and travel preferences. Southwest is easiest to get a free flight in US and Caribbean/MX, AA is easiest to get upgraded benefits, Delta is generally regarded nicest airline but their miles are essentially worthless and you better be connecting somewhere on the way to ATL. United somewhere in the middle of the above.

Read this post and you'll realize all the airlines suck and everyone "will never fly them again" after their single nightmare cancellation, until the next time that airline has the cheapest flight. In reality, there's no one size fits all answer for everyone, and depends on which benefits you value most.
