We did this back in June. Never in my life seen such huge portions.

Steakhouse - Prime at Bellagio, also a big fan of Brasserie at Venetian/Palazzo
Sushi/Japanese - Yellowtail at Bellagio
Italian - Rao's at Caesars
Mexican - Diablo at Monte Carlo

There are so many places to eat, its hard to say a favorite. With that said, I normally do not like eating at buffets, but I think it's worth going to the one at the Bellagio.

We are actually staying at Bellagio and considered this one...in all the times we've been to Vegas, we've never had a buffet. We figure it may be time.

I went to a Spanish restaurant at the Cosmo that was incredible.

Nobu in Caesar's was incredible, both as a meal and the overall experience.

Holstein's in Cosmopolitan is a good burger and their alcoholic milkshakes are great.

Wicked Spoon in the Cosmopolitan is a really solid breakfast/brunch buffet too.

Take her to Hugo's Cellar.

Agree about Steakhouse at Circus Circus.

Difficult to argue against the places that have authentic Kobe, and Carnevino's 240 day aged steaks.

You can get Wagyo anywhewre. You can't get first class service like Hugo's, Kobe or aged beef like Carnevino anywhere.

Google some reviews of Hugo's, your wife will love it.

The Pasta Pirate is no mo'. Some overpriced noodle restaurant replaced it.

I echo the Hugo Cellar recommendation in the Four Queens. Good value for the price.

Prime is very, very, expensive. A steak that's ~42 at Ruth's Chris is $65 at prime. it's a very, very nice restaurant and is worth a visit with a significant other. Not the type of place you go with your boys.

One of my business partners and I went there on a whim after closing a huge deal. The waiter thought we were together, as in TOGETHER, and it caused quite the laugh once we figured it out and explained.

Definitely a date restaurant.

BTW, the steakhouse in Cosmo is very cool. Mix between an excellent steakhouse and a bar/club.

Beat me to it. Agree.

Or...for a similar old Vegas experience, go to The Golden Steer. Legit old Rat Pack hangout.

Overall:

Hugo's Cellar
Lotus of Siam
Holstein's for fancy burgers (get the Billionaire)
...but Gordon Ramsay Burgr is damned good too.
Golden Steer
Carson Kitchen if you're down on Fremont
It's not unique to Vegas, but...Cornish Pasty Co if you want a hearty casual meal that's not too pricey.
Pizza Rock is killer. Also downtown.

Ballagio's is good, Ceasers is the best.

they did a massive overhaul in 2014 and opened the new Bacchanal Buffet. it has 9 kitchens and over 500 items per day. carving station, made to order sushi station, crab/shrimp boil station. made to order pasta station.

its pretty damn amazing. if you do one buffet, id do that one.

As far as restaurants, I love Nobu in Ceasers, Public House in Venetian, Carmines in Ceasers, and like others have mentioned the steakhouse in Circus Circus is great.

Get ready to shell out some cash in Vegas. in the past 10 years its gone very high end. gone are the days of $5.99 prime rib. lol

agree on the ambience, probably the best of any of the vegas steakhouses in terms of bar/club like atmosphere.. the employed talent is amazing. their food on the other hand, is completely unremarkable. for a similar vibe with better food, id recommend n9ne at palms. stripsteak has better food then both places, but not quite the same level of fun vibe.

I think for an anniversary Hugo's would be a better atmosphere. And I don't think there is anyplace even close to it in this regard.

I go to Golden Steer as well, and although it is still very, very good, I've noticed they've declined in the last couple of years.

With respct to Lotus of Siam, this is also very, very good, but my personal preference would still be Hugo's as the OP seems to want the wife to enjoy, and it's an anniversary.

There are literally hundreds of very good places in LV. Some buried treasures like the Italian American Club. It's probably easier to list places to not go to. And probably best to categorized them. e.g. romantic = Hugo's, Old Vegas = Golden Steer, Carnevino = the most aged steak you can get anywhere, Lotus of Siam = one of the best of its kind, anywhere, SW = authentic Kobe from "Tajima cattle born in Hyogo prefecture in Japan that's processed in Kobe, Nishinomiya, Sanda, Kakogawa and Himeji in Hyogo prefecture". etc., etc., ad infinitium...

Where I would suggest to stay away from are Wolfgang Puck's cookie cutter places, and other places where you are paying for a name. Some of Wolfgang Puck's places are right on the casino floor, loud, and marginal food. Not a place to take your wife for an anniversary in my opinion. Other places like this.

I agree with this. Stay away from the celebrity chef tourist trap places

Vegas has tons and tons of great places, most off the strip

It's been a long time since I've been to Vegas but I always enjoyed Mortoranos. His restaurant in the Rio (now closed) had a very unique atmosphere. Not sure if that has been duplicated in the Paris (Vegas) location.

Has anyone in this thread ever eaten at a LV restaurant not on Las Vegas Blvd?

Yes. I always rent a car. Best Italian is at Italian American Social Club in my opinion. Well off of the strip. Lotus of Siam is close to the strip, but not strip. Several other places.
