If you don't enjoy going to wineries I can't imagine even going to Fredricksburg, unless you are going out there for Oktoberfest or the Christmas stuff.
Just being AT a winery without even liking wine is wonderful, to me.
Agree completely! Grape Creek and William Chris both are gorgeous. The wine isn't bad either.
I prefer to stay at an AirBnb or Bed and Breakfast (some aren't on Airbnb) so that we can sit outsite with some wine and snacks in the evening and enjoy the night sky or possibly a firepit (or gas logs) that a log of them have. Weather should be gorgeous! Fredericksburg is a relaxing time to wind down and relax. We eat out occasionally, but also enjoy fixing a leisurely breakfast before heading out to the wineries or coming in for the evening and grilling a few steaks.
I've been to Enchanted Rock and Lost Maples. Those are good if you like to hike. Enchanted Rock is hot, so go early. You can see the bats emerge at Old Tunnel State Park. While there, grab a burger at Alamo Springs Cafe.
I've eaten there, but I've never managed to be there when it was time for the bats, but would like to. Go to the website. I think you need to buy tickets in advance, but I can't imagine that it's crazy busy.
If you like architecture and history, look up the Painted Churches of Texas. There are a lot of them in the hill country. They are generally Catholic and were built by German, Czech, or Polish settlers who couldn't afford to have fancy gold stuff and therefore painted the inside of the churches to make them ornate.
Edited to say I'm sorry that Zappa stole all my Texas thunder.

A lot of the wineries and shops were closed on Monday and Tuesday.
This is the case everywhere you go. Hardly any wineries are open on Mondays. Not exactly a day drinking day of the week and most wineries close at 6pm or so.

I personally really enjoy Fredericksburg and the like for what it is.
Its a nice small town, with good restaurants, some scenic stuff nearby, and things to do.
And some of the wineries are really beautiful.
Even if you think you don't like wine, its cool to go to, and doing tastings might change your mind.
The wines are not what I would consider great for the most part, but its still fun.
Some places have live music. These are not stuffy wineries like you find in Napa. Its Texas.

I didn't know about the Painted Churches, I'll have to look into that. Most of the area was settled by the German Free Thinkers who were atheist and is why the main squares in many towns do not have a big church on the square.

There is a new Single Malt distillery in town called Modisett & Sons that I haven't tried but will when I am there next week. And Go cups are allowed on Main Street, just don't venture off Main with an open container.

Let me know how it is. We aren't going until February.

How did this not get brought up until page 2?
I don't do a ton of traveling so I forget that Louisiana is different when it comes to that.

The quaint downtown vibe has become more commercialized the past couple of years. It’s become way more crowded than it was just 5-7 years ago.

La Bergerie is one of my favorites

It’s really a tough scene if you aren’t 55+ for a weekend get away or a 25 on a bachelorette party, not much for in between
The races in the summer are still a good time and it’s the same people it has been for years

3 nights max.
You could even argue 1 night max.
To each their own.
I enjoy Fburg but I wouldn’t do much past a day of shopping, museum, dinner, and brunch.
I’d go to Wimberly or Boerne for the other days.

The painted Churches are not close to Fredericksburg. They are along I-10 east of Luling and West of Columbus. That’s hours away.
I will add that if you enjoy people watching, the large wineries are fantastic places to sit and have a beer and just watch the show.

Wimberley isn’t too far, a night there would be ok. The drive between the two on the blanco is enjoyable
All the best wineries from my understanding are closer to johnson city now. So maybe a night in each.
Unmentioned in this thread (and I have not seen it for myself) is the growth of the Kerrville riverfront; I just have super negative opinions because frick Kerrville, and everyone from there. Local bigwig was telling me back in august how much they have done to try to draw in the Fredericksburg crowd, so maybe keep that option open op.

I haven’t done much in Blanco really.
I have a customer in Boerne and I’ll get my wife to come along and find an excuse to stay for the night a couple times a year. Great little town.

There is one in Fredericksburg that is quite famous. Most of the rest are near Schulenburg. Yes, hours away, but also on the way there and back. St. Mary's Catholic Church is one that you will find on every list of painted churches.

I’m not a “wine guy” but always enjoy the tours and seeing the properties.
Fredericksburg itself is not somewhere to spend more than a couple of nights. Like most small hill country towns there’s a couple of attractions but the sidewalks roll up early.
