I searched a few Vegas threads and didn’t find quite what I was looking for in them.

Single guy in early 30s, plan on playing some low stakes poker tournaments, not much gambling outside of that. A nice fitness center and pool would be good. Walking distance to other entertainment would be nice.

I’m looking for the lower price ranges, the following are the ones I’m considering. Are any of these a total no go? Any good values?

Sahara
Circa
Trump International
Golden Nugget
Strat (suspiciously cheap, guessing there’s a reason)
MGM Grand
Flamingo
Treasure Island
Linq
Planet Hollywood
Tuscany (very cheap and gets good reviews on Expedia, wondering if there is a catch)

Open to others as well

Thanks

Not the Strat. I’d go with Planet Hollywood, TI, or MGM. If you’ve never been to Vegas before, stay on the strip.

Co-sign.

Whatever bargain you think you’re getting staying there , you’ll give it back by cabs/ubers back and forth

Learned that lesson the hard way

If you’re an MGM card holder, it’s not that difficult to get comped right now. I’ve never been to Vegas, only played at Beau Rivage last year, and I can get 4 nights comped at NYNY, Mirage, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Park MGM and the Luxor.

The only two I have stayed at on that list are the Flamingo, and the MGM Grand three weeks after it opened. The Flamingo is in a much better location in my opinion because it is right in the middle of my favorite stretch of the strip. It is right across from Caesar's Palace which I consider the epicenter.

Last I looked a couple weeks ago Priceline had some rooms at The Mirage for around 120-150$ a night. It’s in a pretty solid location.

From the ones you listed I’d prob roll with Linq. I can’t speak to the rooms but it had an awesome casino and it’s in a great location.

I’ve bet on the MGM sports app and been to Beau Rivage so I should have some, good point.

Looked and only have 1 comp night at either the Luxor or Excalibur and have heard those are pretty bad.

If you have your Mlife/MGM Rewards card, log in on the MGM Resorts website. You should be able to get some discounted rates (not counting resort fees)

Added: Every review is different. I’ve heard good things about Luxor. Luxor and Excalibur are the least extravagant of their properties. I don’t expect you stay in your hotel room much. Check the other properties and see if they’re discounting their rooms.

Yeah looks like I’d save about 200 dollars on a 5 night stay at MGM Grand compared to Expedia, that seems like a good option.

Me and Dad played at Island View in Gulfport for 20 minutes last year. We both got players cards and we got up to 3 free nights totally comped. We’re taken advantage of it in June.

Always book casino hotels with the hotel itself. No way to get comped on the back end if you go through a third party booking site.

Looks like I could get a flight plus hotel at either MGM Grand or Treasure Island from Sunday to Thursday for about 600 bucks in May, that seems ridiculously cheap. Thursday night is expensive and I don’t really need it.

Ended up booking May 15 to May 19 at MGM Grand, had a 200 dollar voucher from a delayed flight last year too

Grab a couple day pass for the monorail that runs behind the properties. It is under used and you are staying at the end of the strip. MGM has a station

Yes to the monorail. MGM has a FREE monorail as well. One connects Bellagio to Aria and the other connects Mandalay Bay to Luxor and Excalibur.

Since you’re staying at MGM, two words: Wet Republic. Top golf is also there.

I'm sure that there are shittier casino/hotels in Vegas, but the Strat has to be near the top of the list.

If you like being surrounded by the absolute dregs of society, stay at a really cheap Vegas hotel.

The Linq also has a pretty young vibe and it right by the Linq Promenade where there's lot of bars and restaurants. I love the Mirage and don't have the Flamingo, but I'm probably looking at a different vibe from the OP as I could be their mom and I prefer Blackjack and slots.

I think the OP would be ok at Plant Hollywood and MGM as well.

Do not stay at the Sahara or the Strat. They are both far away from everything. I'd recommend staying on the Strip as well. I think the D or the Plaza on Fremont would be good fits, but not for a first trip.

The strat is disconnected from the rest of the properties. It also sits right by Naked City which is pretty bad

Thanks all for the advice, my trip has panned out well. If I come back, I’d probably stay at Bally’s because I like their poker room and it is in a good location. But MGM Grand has been good too. I did a two day monorail pass and got good use of it.

My legs and feet are absolutely killing me from walking so much, never walked this much in my life before.
