Camp/kayak The Buffalo and you could hit up Silver Dollar City & Branson along with it.

Please fix this link. If you have a specific outfitter for camping / kayaking the Buffalo, I'd like to see it.

Why doesn't this work when you tell the police this after you beat them?

Kudos for not being a Disney sheep. There’s a big world out there, no need to have a corporate theme park experience. Ditto for the beach: why do so many ppl keep going to the same places? Sheep...unoriginal, fearful, lazy minded sheep.

You don’t mention budget or season....but here are a few suggestions:
—5 is prime “dinosaur” age. Take Lil Junior to the Houston Museum of Natural History, or to DC to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (free! And DC has the national zoo as well)
—where do YOU want to go? Just about any locale will have kid friendly options. Paris, London, etc. So don’t think that your trip must be solely kid focused for Lil Choppa to enjoy him or herself.
—consider things like taking Amtrak from NO to Chicago, or the Empire Builder to Seattle, if the kiddo likes trains. Train travel can be easier on the small fry than cars or planes: more to see, easier to move around, dining car and snacks, restrooms, etc.

Any beach is fun at that age.

I fixed the link, but it’s for the town of Jasper. That’s where we always go. There are plenty of outfitters there who can meet most if not all needs. However, we always bring our own gear and boats for the journey. We complete it annually. It’s become a right of passage for the youngins.

Colorado Springs. Tons of national parks. A theme park (North Pole Santa’s Workshop) for kids in the summer, and a fantastic zoo.

Took my 3 year old last year and it was perfect. Tons of good AirBNB options. Good food and brewery options for you too.

Nice. Thanks. I drove through Jasper a few summers ago, and I was amazed.

I figured Jasper must be ground zero. I will poke around.

I can’t stand the thought of DW as well. However, I recently booked a Disney cruise for April so we will see if that satisfies my kids Disney craving while keeping my sanity.

I've seen well behaved 5 year olds or so traveling all over the world. Hopefully mine ends up that way but I'm sure the odds aren't good.

San Diego is pretty cool because they have other things that'll be fun for everyone, like the zoo and legoland.

And SeaWorld. And that big train museum with all the train clubs at Balboa park. And whale watching tours if you go during certain times of the year.

San Diego is just awesome.

We took a road trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX. There is a mini legoland type place in grapevine with rides and stuff. Did a Rangers game and the Perot Museum which is one of my favorites. Very interactive even for little kids. There is an old train thing in Grapevine that didn’t work out with timing.

Then we went to San Antonio. We did the “Do-seum,” natural bridge caverns and car safari, sea world, river walk boat ride, and Tower of the America’s which has free 4D movies that are about 20 minutes long and just run them with 5 minute breaks.

My kids were 3 and 5 and still talk about this trip after almost 2 years.

my daughter is about to be 6 and she has already been to 2 countries and 5 states. she travels real well though and likes flying.

she says her favorite spot was tulum mexico, probably because of the pool at the resort.

How about going to North Georgia to Tallulah Gorge, nice waterfalls and hiking. Stop at Goats on Roof on way. Nothing much, just goats living on roof and you pay .50 or so to send pail of food to rooftop for goats. Zip lining close by and picked apples at orchard. Just few simple pleasures on trip.
