Never been, looking to go with wife and two kids(7 and 8). I have no clue what I'm looking at when I go to their website, quite frankly it's clunky and confusing once you start getting into package options. I do know we will not want to do volcano bay as kids are mainly thrill ride seekers.

Are there dedicated travel agents out there like Disney has? Best resort to stay at?

You want to stay at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, or Royal Pacific. Universal Express (basically an unlimited Fastpass) is included at no extra charge at those three hotels. You also get early admission to one of the parks. Hard Rock is within walking distance of the parks, while Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific have boat service.

Portofino is my favorite of the three.

There's a website called Orlando informer that gives a lot of information about what to do at the parks if you're interested. LINK

It gives reviews of the rides and hotels, etc. It also shows a crowd calendar about how packed it might be when you go and you can decide whether or not you'll need an express pass ( skip the lines) or not. If you get an express pass I'd recommend staying at one of their Premier hotels like hard rock, Royal Pacific, or Portofino Bay because express passes are included when you stay in those hotels.

Otherwise we stayed at cabana bay and it was pretty good except for the fact our room was a mile from the lobby and pool.

I've been 3X and hoping to go in December with my sister for her birthday.

As far as thrill rides go your kids would probably like revenge of the mummy(one of the best rides in the park imo) then there's gringotts, forbidden journey, and the new hagrid ride (which has a lot of good reviews) considering your kids ages they might also like the spider man ride and if they're thrill seekers then they'd probably like the hulk coaster and Hollywood rip ride rock it ( you can pick your song on it)

I've stayed at Royal Pacific twice and it's worth it just for the Express Pass. Hotel is very nice too. We walked to the parks almost every time and it was no more than 10 minutes.

went last year on a combo disney adult trip and stayed off site. it wasn't bad, however, per tons of research, we were actually scheduled to be there right now with the kids and were staying at royal pacific. IMO from what i saw the last 2 times (2018,2019) that the unlimited express pass is a must. we love the parks. city walk is cool too. find me at fat tuesdays during any down time

I've stayed at Portofino twice and loved it, but definitely feel like it's targeted towards adults for the most part. Agree with staying here for the Express Pass.

We also did a Harry Potter Package where we were able to have two breakfasts in the HP sections of the park, and you get into one of the parks an hour early. We would set our breakfast for about 30 minutes after the park opened for everyone, which gave us enough time to jump on some of the busier rides early before everyone else gets into the park. Nice to have one of those hotels in case you want to take a break in the afternoon and go back later.

More than happy to tell you more about it if you have any questions!

Does anyone know how the Louisiana travel ban/quarantine requirement in Florida will affect perspective travelers like myself wanting to go to universal for the day they open on June 5th?

I've heard/read the opposite that it's one of if not the worst ride in the park. It's become a running gag on universal sites and forums about how bad it is.

They say waiting in line/the queue is more exciting than the ride itself. I personally haven't been on it (yet... I probably will when me and my sister go in December for her birthday because she's a f&f fan) but if you or no one in your family is a f&f fan then I'd skip it. JMO

Even though I haven't been on the F&F ride they have a similar ride called skull island reign of Kong and I've been on that ride, and they say that ride is great in comparison.

If that's the case then that's really bad cuz the skull island reign of Kong ride is one of the most if not the most boring ride I've been on so I'd skip that one as well.

You basically ride in a bus and you get to watch a few King Kong scenes where he "rescues" you. It mostly feels like riding a bus but with King Kong scenes and a little mist of water and the bus shakes a little.

I've read F&F is similar, but no water and no shaking. It's basically like riding a bus that speeds up a little and is based on the F&F movies.

I agree with staying at one of the hotels listed above. You can check in as early as 7AM which allows you to use the fast pass thing on the day you check in and the day you check out. I think 3 days at universal is plenty. A lot of the rides are the same 3D/4D stuff.

The Hagrid motorcycle ride is worth the wait. One of the coolest rides I have ever ridden.
