I have a 3 year old and my wife or I would like to be able to walk her back to the hotel for a nap at 12 while my wife and son stay at the park.

We have stayed at the Loews resort and it's walking distance I enjoyed it. Is there anything closer?

Hard rock. Just stayed there in June and I can’t recommend it enough. Place is amazing and the closest. It’s so close that riding the water taxi just feels silly.

Without a doubt. Ask to placed in a room along the water and you're even closer to the back door that leads to the parks.

Yeah I have stayed there twice and it is perfect. Great pool area and bar as well. It is 5 minutes from Universal gate. Best hotel there by far.

I think that the Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay, and Hard Rock are all Loews hotels.

When I posted this I didnt realize there was more than one Loews hotel at Universal. We stayed at the Royal Pacific last time.

Pretty sure all UO hotels are Loews hotels, not just the deluxe/premium locations.

How many hotels are we talking?

Universal doesn't seem to have very many "on-site" properties.

7 or 8..without looking. They have the three deluxe (hard rock, Portofino bay and Royal pacific), then they have cabana bay, adventure and sapphire falls then the two value endless summer and dockside inn

Thats what I saw. Disney has a lot more but not near as many as close as those are to the parks.

Our favorite are at WDW is the Boardwalk area because you can walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Not a fan of either resorts bus systems. Or any bus system for that matter.

My favorite spot on property (not including an outside table at Baseline Taphouse) is the walkway between the Polynesian and the Grand just before the wedding chapel. On morning run/walk, you can stand in one spot and see the Grand Floridian, the Castle, The Contemporary and the Polynesian with the sun rising over Seven Seas Lagoon.

My second favorite is near the wedding chapel at Crescent Lake near sunset looking towards the swan and dolpin with the boardwalk to the left and Yacht & Beach to the right.
