Clear process with Precheck: see above except the Clear line is longer because many people have multiple credit cards which covers the cost for both.
My experience at DFW & Love Field is the polar opposite. I never have to wait in the Clear line and go right through TSA. Probably 5 minutes or less from Clear to getting through security.

What is the renewal process for GE? I assume once you've done the interview and what not you don't have to do it again.

What if it lapses and you don't pay for it after the 5 years is up, but later want to do it again. Do you have to go through the whole process again?

My Pre-Check expires early next year, guessing I should just go ahead and put in the app for GE?

You better get on it soon...the waitlist for the interview is over 6 months right now.

Do kids and spouses on my reservation still get pre check if I up grade to GE?

I know they would not get to use GE for customs.

I've never had a line at Clear and it takes you to the front of security. Game changer when paired with Global Entry (which includes Precheck).

Kids? Maybe I’m not sure.

Spouse? No

Once you have global, how is pre automatic? Am I automatically put into the pre system?

I did mine a week ago coming back from a flight. A bunch of airports now have it where you can do the interview right after you get through customs. Took 5 minutes

Yes. Put your KTN number from GE into your airline profiles and you will get it. Back in the day it may not work the first flight but it will start working so don't sweat it if that happens.

Don't know about lapsing but you get a whole year to renew and it was all online and very easy. No interview to renew.

We are currently experiencing a backlog in processing. Processing times vary by applicant, but on average you can expect your application to be processed as follows:
• GE: 6-8 months
• NEXUS: 16-18 months
• SENTRI: 12-14 months

These are average times. Unfortunately, we cannot anticipate a date of completion for your specific application at this time.

I have seen different results with this the last few years and seems to be hit or miss. I wouldn't count on it being guaranteed.

Regarding Clear, check which airports have it and in which terminals. My home airport is DFW and they only offer Clear in terminal E, which I never use. No-go for me.

That's because Delta and United are investors in CLEAR, so American doesn't want it in their terminals.

Regarding GE, not sure this is the norm, but I submitted my application on Tuesday. Was conditionally approved less than 48 hours later and have an appointment scheduled next weekend. Not sure why it happened so quickly.

Are you in Chicago? I noticed when I was trying to get an appointment that certain places (ATL, NY, Chicago) always had lots of openings.

Kansas City. They had several days available in August.

What credit card do you have? Amex Platinum is the only one that would pay for CLEAR and it pays for Precheck/GE as well (ie it'll pay for both CLEAR and GE, you don't have to choose). CLEAR is by far the best but most expensive and in the fewest places (and only USA). GE is the only one internationally and it includes precheck. Precheck is quickest response since COVID, but otherwise GE over it is a no brainer unless you never plan to leave the US.

I love Clear and it’s great at MSY. That said I’m in the process of getting Global Entry. If you have some trips coming up Clear does a free month or two can test it out.
