Tropical Vacation in July

I currently have 200k MR points and looking to go somewhere tropical for the second week of July. Any suggestions that utilize my points effectively?

Not sure about MR points and what resorts to suggest.
I like the Dominican Republic, St Thomas, Aruba, Puerto Vallarta. Cabo is great, too, if you’re wanting a desert environment.

We went to Costa Rica last year in July and had a great time.

St Thomas has peaked my interest…. What area of the island do you recommend?

I suggest flying into St. Thomas and getting on the ferry at Red Hook and staying on St. John. No comparison between the two.

Can you elaborate some more?

St. John is just a better island. 60% of the island is national park. Great beaches, tons of trails and good restaurants. You don’t have the horde of cruise ship travelers that descend on St. Thomas daily. It’s a fantastic island.

Using your MR effectively means understanding transfer partners and how they work.
Most obviously, MR transfer to Delta, so you can search availability with miles directly on Delta's website and then transfer your MR to your Delta Airlines account.
MR do not transfer directly to United, so to search availability to the Caribbean on United, you would need to search with Air Canada Aeroplan, which is a MR transfer partner and which can offer mileage redemption on United through their joint membership in the Star Alliance.
Similarly, to look for availability on American Airlines, you can search for availability through British Airways.
Alternatively, you can search with a site such as PointsYeah that allows you to select MR transfer partners.
If you want to learn about using your points effectively, I recommend r/awardtravel on Reddit or websites such as Frequent Miler and The Points Guy.

So much this. SJ is also more international so the 45 min ferry ride or whatever gets you away from some of the American-ization. They're both very caribbean but SJ is a little more 'exotic'. A lot more beautiful.
If you can get on a boat and do some sailing it will take your breath away. Lots of little islands and undeveloped spots to anchor.

because St. John is not St. Thomas. The only time well spent there is sitting and drinking a Painkiller waiting on the ferry to St. John.

And bring a passport so you can daytrip to Jost van Dyke.

I don't grok why anyone is using points to fly to the Caribbean and not Barcelona (qualifies as hot AF in July), South East Asia, etc.
