Trip Insurance help?

1st - I don’t have a problem buying trip insurance.
2nd- my concern / question revolves around Coronavirus.
3rd - will Trip Insurance cover my trip if I choose not to go w/o cancellation by cruise or airlines?
Bottom line I purchased a $4,000 tour event outside of all travel expenses. I’m looking at a $10K risk.
Thanks

We always buy it for big trips. For our upcoming trip to Germany this April we bought it. The company is Travel Insured International. The fee is based on the total cost of your trip. In our case for this trip it was $338.
Their website has a list of current events. There would be stipulations on what they cover and when. Has to be a covered reason. Voluntary cancellations may be subject to a percent of the cancellation.
Bottom line is it could but there may be some stipulations and you may get a percent of what you paid, so you need to read the fine print.

Travel insurance is roughly 7% of the cost of your total trip you want covered to cancel for listed reasons and 10-12% for unlisted reasons to get a portion back usually around 60%. So if you drive you don't need to cover your drive cost if you don't want, but if you fly you do.
What exactly would be cancelled and not refunded? If you go on a cruise, the cruise will either be cancelled and you refunded or given credit or it won't be cancelled and I don't see how an outbreak would be covered by travel insurance if nothing is canceled or plans aren't changed? You can get travel insurance to cover you if you want to cancel "just because", but that's much more expensive.

Travel insurance is full of "gotchas" even when your trip is cancelled by the carrier. Read over the coverage very carefully and unless you are a lawyer, you may still get taken. google Travel Insurance and read reviews. But to answer your question, unless your trip is officially canceled by the carrier or perhaps if the US Government issued a do not travel advisory for the area you are going, no way will insurance pay.

Read the fine print. I took out trip insurance on a flight to Tokyo. Come to find out, an epidemic is not covered. Wasn’t an issue at the time. But they were very clear in defining an epidemic.
Exclusions and coverage should be very easy to find. Just read.

Not quite true. In my case, Air Canada is offering exceptions to certain locations during certain dates. You can cancel for a full refund regardless if you have trip insurance. Third party companies will honor this....sadly, my destination/date is not yet exempt.

I think Travelex insurance covers if there is a quarantine on base policies. They also have cancel for any reason policies, but you have to get them within a certain amount of days from initial payment.

Probably! $4500 London Marathon related entry tour guarantee. Tokyo Marathon w/ 38,000 runners canceled this week. Italy bow up / quarantine certainly has us concerned.
Thanks for the help. I plan to purchase insurance tomorrow
