Some more details would be nice.

Are you spending your entire trip in Dublin? How long?

Use search function, this city has been discussed in detail many many times.

Get rested and acclimated before renting a car.
I did significant damage to a nearly new Volvo

Don’t spend the whole time in Dublin is the number one suggestion. I love Dublin but you can be all the way across the country in 3 hours.

Dublin us worth 2-3 days. With limited time beyond that,go to Glenalogh/Wicklow mountains for a night.

My Irish friend says watch your wallet. Also drink beer. Go to breweries. Tours and shite, you know.

I enjoyed this tour of Newgrange: LINK

I also took a tour that visited a castle (can't remember which one) and the lake where Guinness gets its water from (and where Vikings was filming at the time). I don't remember the company, but I'm sure most such day trips are fun.

I used the City Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off tour to get around the city, which worked pretty well. I also enjoyed visiting the Library at Trinity College and taking the Guinness tour.

As others said, though, you don't need to spend a lot of time in Dublin. I was there a week, and I wish I had taken the time to see other parts of Ireland.

Went to Dublin and Galway last summer. One of the most disappointing Europe trips I’ve been on. I didn’t find it to be a worthwhile trip relative to other parts of Europe.
