Yes I’ve been to WDW and could plan out everything to include ADRs 180 Days out, but is it worth my time? The answer is no. That is why I entrust the planning to my Disney travel agent Susan Sonderman who ensures all of the smallest details are covered to include a printed daily itinerary with the most efficient way of hitting the attractions to include FP, ADR, and crowd times. She does all the hard work and knows the type of vacation I want and plans the FPs and most importantly and probably the hardest part of a WDW vacation is she secures the hardest ADRs for me. It is free and I highly suggest you try it.

I love to travel and planning is part of the fun. Not a day goes by that I don't research something to do with traveling. I like to plan 3-4 trips in advance and piece it all together like a puzzle. I am also a solo traveler, so I don't have to worry about anyone else's preferences. That makes it easier.

If you are lazy, dumb, or just want someone else to do the thinking for you, they are an excellent option.

If you actually enjoy travel and researching stufff yourself, there is no need for one.

I used a travel agency from Costa Rica when I planned my Costa Rican honeymoon. Yes I did a lot of my own research but this company was very familiar with the different companies in the country that offered excursions and only booked with those they knew were legit. They took a lot of worry out of our trip. We were able to step off the plane and know everything was planned out for us and just enjoy the honeymoon.

There was even an issue during the trip and my agent was able to contact us by phone to alert us of it and the changes they had made for us so we could still do the excursion. If we had booked the excursion on our own we would have just had it cancelled and money refunded.

So I would say there are advantages to using a travel agent. Is one needed for every trip? No. But to say they are useless nowadays because you can just plan everything online is an ignorant statement.

We are thinking of doing a Disney cruise if we can make the dates work. We can do all the research we want. Even asked the question here a few days ago. Then we got put in touch with someone who is a Travel Agent that deals with Disney. She literally just got off the boat to stay up to date on all the offerings. No way we'd ever learn all she knows about the process. If we know that's the destination, and we get the same price, why would you not use an agent???

For cruises Id certianly make sure you get an onboard credit if using a travel agent. Most of them should also include some sort of in room gift as well. Usually like a bottle of wine/champagne, beach bag etc. and sometimes they'll include a meal at one of the premium restaurants.

Its kind of weird because cruises are one of the easiest vacations to plan but probably one of the smartest to use a travel agent for simply because of the perks you can get by either booking with one or transferring your reservation to one. I usually book my cruises with AAA travel just because of the perks they give by booking with them.

The biggest reason NOT to book a cruise with a TA is because they have to be the ones to make the changes...they essentially hold the reservation. Disney doesn't do alot of flash sales like say Royal Caribbean so making changes to your reservation isnt as common but it can be a pain in the arse sometimes.

One reason we don’t travel as much anymore is that I no longer enjoy grinding for deals and the best hotels, etc. When I was younger, I sort of enjoyed the planning, but I now hate it,

I was just thinking about consulting an agent for an Italy trip to 3or 4 cities, with transport in between, We’ve wanted to go for years, and the only obstacle has been my hatred of spending hours online planning and booking it.

I tell my wife, “You book it, and I’ll go,” but she apparently hates the process too. She says she wants to go but never books it.
