My wife and I are going to D.C. the last week of March for four full days. We are staying in Alexandria Va near the metro. The only things we are definitely going to do so far are the Smithsonian museum of natural history and American history, the zoo, and the National Gallery of Art.
What I was wondering is if you guys have any other recommendations for activities to do either in DC or Alexandria Va. Also, I was wondering about restaurants for either lunch or dinner in either area. Also, does anybody have any recommendations for activities to do pertaining to the Cherry Blossom festival. Thanks in advance.

The weather this week may have screwed the cherry blossoms this year. Lots of stuff was starting to bloom before the cold and snow and wind this week.

Arlington National Cemetary is a must, especially if you're staying in Alexandria

Do the Lincoln trail of tears

Also, Antietam is about 60 miles away if you're a civil war buff. Pretty drive too

Yeah I'm here now and I think the cherry blossoms are done for the year. The snow this week likely killed that.

Even if the Cherry Blossoms are gone, are they still having activities pertaining to the festival.

Did both of these last March...

Air and Space is a really cool place. My wife and I even took in an IMAX while we were there.

Holocaust Museum is very tough. It is extremely well-done..just tough to go through. Due to a recommendation from a friend, we scheduled our time there for when we had a little down time afterward. After going thru, I understand what they meant. Whatever you do, please keep your phone on silent and for pete's sake, if it does ring - do NOT answer it. We saw both from this idiot lady at one of the most somber sections of the museum. Just disrespectful in our opinion...kind of like sunbathing on the WWII memorial - which, unfortunately, we saw too.

If you are staying in Alexandria VA, Mt Vernon is close to that area. Definitely worth some time!

I recommend adding the National Portrait Gallery and Arlington.

Get a lobster roll at Luke's Lobster, it will blow you away.

The Majestic in Alexandria sometimes does a family style supper on Sunday evenings that's pretty good.

I'm sorry I don't know that information. I don't actually live here I'm just in town this week for work. Maybe someone from D.C. can answer you.

Whatever festivities are planned will still occur. There just won't be any pretty flowers to look at. This is pretty normal as the timing of the blossoms in an inexact science and something like several chilly windy days can shorten the time that the trees are in bloom.

I checked out the Postal Museum. It was pretty cool.

Also Founding Farmers was a solid place to eat.

One thing I suggest for an evening is a tour of the monuments at night by Uber/Driver. The hotels can suggest somebody for you. Couple hundred bucks and worth it. They take on a whole new majesty lit up.

Also, If you have never been to the national archives, the Supreme Court building, or the Library of Congress all are worth going to - even if for a half hour each. Every American should see the Constitution once.

If you are taking the Metro to the National Zoo, get off at the Cleveland Park stop instead of the Woodley Park/Zoo stop. The Zoo is between the 2 stops, and the walk from the Cleveland Park Metro stop is downhill. Take Woodley Park (downhill) when you leave. There are a lot of good cafés and restaurants around the Woodley Park stop.

Arlington Cemetery.

Old Ebbit Grill around the corner from the White House has one of the best burgers I've ever had.
