Maine or Oregon?

Eta....either state....drink good beer.

Hire a fishing guide on the Multnomah channel if in Oregon. Spring salmon have arrived.

Great Notion Brewing is an excellent stop. Plenty of other great stops in some of the other posts referenced.

What do you like to do?

Drink good beer?

I can mention where to drink and eat.

Part of the Columbia gorge has opened up if interested in a good short hike or a long one.

If you like to fish spring salmon fishing is heating up. They are the best tasting of all king salmon as they retain more fat because they have to survive til fall. Looking at around 275 though with 1 day out of state license, guide fee, and tip.

Can give a few names if interested.

Thanks for the links.

Friday night we got in at about 5:30 PM. Took the train to our hotel in the Pearl district.

Had some awesome ramen at Boxer Ramen. We then bar hopped some, went to Al’s Den & went to Multomah’s Whiskey Library.

On Saturday we went to the farmers market & had breakfast. We then went to the Japanese gardens followed by the zoo. Had a late lunch at Deschutes Brewery. We then did some shopping to pass the time. Went to the Departure roof top bar for drinks. Got some late night pizza at sizzle pie & called it a night.

Today is a brunch cruise on the river & then the rest of the day to do whatever. Tomorrow is Hillsboro & cannon beach.

Yeah, about Hillsboro. I wouldn't be expecting too much.

Cannon Beach is the tits. Are you staying there, or just going for a day trip?

Astoria is nice, too.

Cannon Beach is awesome. Beyond the town, I'd hit Ecola State Park for the views, even if you don't want a ton of the hiking.

If you must go to Hillsboro, ABV Public House is worth a stop.

Suicide wings are exceptional (if you like heat in epic proportions)

Colorado Pork Green chili Poutine is also excellent.

Great bottle shop at the place for beer to go as well.

Just looking at apartments in Hillsboro. My GF is going to grad school in Hillsboro.

Would love to see Astoria. I am a major Goonies fan.

I second the nomination of ABV. Warning - it's a little hard to find, but worth it, once you do find it. Great tap list, tons of bottles/cans, and the food is very good. Wood-fired pizza, burgers, and some unusual stuff, like boar sausages, pig shanks, lamb burger, elk burger, frog legs, escargot, etc.

Fort George is the place to go in Astoria for beer. The Astoria column is very cool. It's a tower on the highest point in town. Stunning panoramic views.

You might want to drive across the bridge to Washington. Nothing there, but the bridge is neat and you get nice views while crossing.

ETA: ABV Pub is right on HWY 26 heading out to Cannon Beach (You can see it from the Brookwood/Helvetia exit), so it is a very convenient stop either to or from the beach.

+1 to difficult to find. It's on the back side of a strip mall/office complex. The highway is running behind the building and you can see the highway from the front door. Hope that helps if you head there.

I'm going to add that in Hillsboro, the Orenco Station area is pretty cool. It's a good place to catch the train downdtown, and there are a lot of shops and restaurants within a few blocks of the train station. Orenco Taphouse is a good place to get a beer. Not as big as ABV, and they don't sere food, but it's more intimate, and you can bring food in, if you want. I recommend the little Lebanese place just down the street called Salam. If your girlfriend is going to be living there, then I'm guessing you'll be back, and if not, she'll want to know about that.

Lots of apartments in Orenco Station. They are pricey, though.

We were actually in Orenco station looking for her a place to live. She find out one over there. Right on the MAX is key.

We also went to Cannon Beach. Saw The Goonies haystack rocks(i am a huge Goonies fan). We also hiked the Ecola State Park look out point area where they held up the coin to line the three rocks up with the doubloon
