re: The Definitive Boston Thread
Thanks for this thread. What do you think of Mama Maria’s in NE?
And which is a better idea: whale watching cruise or a sunset cruise?

Already got Rez for L’Espalier

re: The Definitive Boston Thread
Happy to be of help.

I actually have never been to Mama Maria's, but I've heard nothing but good things.

I've also never done the sunset cruise, but I've done the whale watching tour a few times and that's a lot of fun. Each time I've done it, they get us really close. If you've never done one, I'd recommend it. A little tip, if you go out to Gloucester (about 30 minutes outside Boston) there are a couple whale watch tours. Gloucester is a quintessential New England fishing town, and Cape Ann brewery is a nice spot to go for a drink after the tour. You can take the commuter rail out there if you don't have a car, and the station is right in the center of town. Also, there's always deals on Groupon for the whale watch tours. Easy way to save a little money.

Enjoy L'Espalier. We just went for the first time a couple weeks ago for our first wedding anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. We sat at the Chef's Table in the kitchen and enjoyed a 12 course meal with wine pairings. It was an unbelievably cool experience. Here's a shot of our view from our seats (it was in the middle of the kitchen) and a couple of our dishes (squab and lightly poached salmon):

I like the quick eats at Haymarket and then hitting up the cider donuts. Not sure it's worth adding to the list, though.

The Public Market at Haymarket is a nice little place to stop. Honestly I forget that it's there most of the time, but when I do go I always enjoy it.

Once the Trillium Garden opens back up, I'll have to renew my Saturday ritual of going to The Public Market and walking to the Garden for a pint. Makes for a nice Saturday.

Thanks for the thread and great information, especially the breweries!

Have you ever been to Babbo Pizzeria E Enoteca? Was thinking of checking it out this summer.

Definitely worth checking out. They have some amazing gelato and a great wine list. We actually went there for my birthday dinner this past year.

Excellent question. It's been a while since I've made my way over. Definitely need to come by there soon.

I’ll be the guy who also says “y’all” followed by “what the hell? This beer tastes like ass.”

Only kidding.

You gotta get the IGC or the Louie at the source!

Haven’t had IGC, but Louie is a legit beer.

Again, I was only kidding. Aeronaut is awesome.

Went out to Canton today and got a 4-pack of The Streets at Trillium. It’s a Triple IPA. Can’t wait to try it.

re: The Definitive Boston Thread
What is the place in Cambridge that has a great tap list? Five Horses?

Any other places with great tap list and good to great food?

I’ll be in the Northern burbs but relocating to a hotel near Logan for a night.

re: The Definitive Boston Thread
Technically, Five Horses is in Somerville and not Cambridge. But it’s very close to the border of both towns, and yes I believe it has the best tap list in the area.

As far as where to go for food, I think the guide helps cover that pretty well, but I cannot stress how great Table Season to Taste is.

In Cambridge, I’d look into Mead Hall. Really great place and their to list is off the charts.

The good thing about being near Logan is that unlike most cities, you’re only minutes from the city despite being close to the airport.

If you have any other questions let me know.

Although not unique to Boston, I’d say Eataly is worth a visit for anyone that hasn’t been to any of their other locations.

NORTH END

Restaurants

• Giacomo’s - A classic Italian restaurant in the North End. Absolutely no frills but amazing food for a good price. The wine is cheap and good enough. Cash only though and there will always be a line.

Question for the resident Boston expert on this restaurant - any idea how long should we expect the wait to be on a random Tuesday night if we got there around 6 or 6:30? This place looks right up our alley, but I don't want to spend too much time waiting on a table since we're only in Boston for one night.

re: The Definitive Boston Thread
A random weeknight will obviously have a shorter wait time than a Friday/Saturday, but you can still safely assume that you'll have at least an hour wait.

Honestly, as great as it is, with only one night in Boston I'd look elsewhere and get a reservation so you have more time to see the city.
