Lol. They won't be flying 737 3/3 to Europe. Who would do that?

The airline, which currently operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet, is reportedly leaning toward the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as its first wide-body aircraft. This would open the doors for nonstop flights to destinations far beyond its current network.

Is Southwest Looking at Europe Flights?

There are a few arilines that do it, believe WestJet and even United has some.

That would change everything, but as of now, they don't have anything but 737's and would take 4-5yrs to get their hands on a Dreamliner.

Now you are double downing. The word on the streets is they may be looking to lease or buy existing 787's. Take a look around the internet. Lots of smoke, but it will still probably be 3 - 4 years. Also, they are one of the top buyers of Boeing because of all of the 737's the order, so other word on the streets is that Boeing will put them to the top of the list on 787's if SWA asks and produce some for them early. It will probably only be 12 - 15 planes for very specific European flights.

The streets, as in WallStreet?

quote:

TEXAS- Southwest Airlines (WN) has dismissed reports that it is considering the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for long-haul international operations, despite growing signs that the Dallas-based carrier is moving beyond its traditional low-cost business model. The denial follows a Reuters report suggesting that the airline has been evaluating widebody aircraft, including potential leases and second-hand purchases.

Speaking during Southwest’s October 22, 2026, third-quarter earnings call, CEO Bob Jordan described reports of an impending widebody order as lacking credibility.

Ed had been absolute trash. He hired some GaTech MBA nerd to run operations and has valued engineered a once incredible ATL ground crew into shite.

Used to never panic/fret dealing with a WX delay through ATL. Not the case anymore.

shite, I was based there and WX caused us to sit on taxiways because ground crew couldn't load luggage for the plane was at our gate, sitting on the tarmac pushed back from the gate for hours, etc. plenty of times, among other WX issues. How is it any different now than it was 20 years ago?
