Do you absolutely need a rental car? St John has plenty of alternatives depending on where you’re staying and what you plan on doing on your trip. If you have rent a vehicle and can’t find one on St John, try St Thomas. We rented from a place on St Thomas and took the car ferry over to St John.

Everything is booking up very fast. They very well may be sold out. I would take the advice and check St. Thomas and just ferry over. I am going in Feb. and we had to call and schedule this far in advance from the advise of people on the island. I'm attaching a list of companies that were suggested to me:

We rented from Discount Car Rental in St. Thomas and they treated us very well. They put us in a 2021 4 door Jeep Wrangler with around 400 miles on it. It was very clean. I made reservations in January for our trip in March. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't even rent a vehicle. If I did rent a vehicle, I would try to rent it on St. John only to support their economy but, I don't have any regrets about using Discount Car Rental for our first trip to St. John.

If you're going to be driving around St. John, especially the north and east ends, I would suggest finding a Jeep. I saw other people in cars and they were struggling on some of the mountain roads. I couldn't help but think that the transmission was about to go out any minute in some of these little cars.
