I go skiing a couple times per year, typically in Summit County (Breck, Keystone, Copper) or over to Vail. Also been a few times to Beaver Creek, Aspen, Park City, and Tahoe.

I’ve never been to Steamboat (one of the few big resorts I haven’t visited) but a buddy is considering planning a trip for us this year.

Looking for some insight as to how it compares to these other resorts, both from a mountain and town experience. Feedback from some of you avid skiers is greatly appreciated!

Really love Steamboat. Great skiing, friendly people, and the city is excellent with a good options for dinner and drinks. Plus there's an airport about 15 minutes away from the resort.

I haven't been skiing anywhere else since I started going there.

If you're thinking about going to Steamboat, you should definitely go. Both the town and the mountain are great. Lower elevation than Summit County places, if anyone in your group gets acute altitude sickness in Breck, it won't be as bad in da boat. Being lower elevation and La Nina season (favorable for the northern CO mountains), definitely go later in the season.

This.

I’ll add that the ski school is great and they’re day care is as well if your group needs any of that. You can pretty much ski the whole mountain in a few days, but I’ve found it doesn’t draw near the crowds as other places which is nice.

Great info all. Thanks! We are tentatively lining things up for third week in February. Four couples and no kids so if y’all have recommendations for drinking spots let me know

ETA - how challenging is the mountain compared to Vail and Breck? We typically ski blacks, and will do handful of double blacks each day.

I’m considering the same thing this year. Been pretty much everywhere except Streamboat. Probably gonna pull them trigger. Where to stay? We like to walk to the lifts.

Steamboat is awesome. Once you find the tomahawk run you’ll have a new favorite ski run.

I consider steamboat a smaller, easier mountain. The town is great. It’s not super built up like summit county. Strawberry hot springs are a must.

Thanks again everyone. What part of town should we try to stay in? Is it possible to get ski in / out and also be walkable to the area with the bars and restaurants?

Very possible to ski in and ski out. The village is up top and the actual “town” is few miles away. You can do ski in/out and be close to walk to the village itself. Take the bus into town.

Does not compute. Tomahawk is about as easy of blue as you'll find.

Steamboat isn't really known for having steep terrain, but it's excellent tree skiing. Closets and Shadows is a ton of fun if you're into that.
