Is snow still decent in the first week of April (looking at Easter week 2024) or is that too late? Any other places that have direct flights from MSY and better snow in early April that you would recommend?

Should be fine since they got decent snow this year. towards the end of April they shut down peak 9 and 10.

I have gone the last weekend of their ski season before and the snow was fine and the runs were empty. literally could go 10 minutes without seeing anyone on a regular blue run. Easter weekend will probably be a little mor crowded than that though.

I've been to Breck the first week of April a couple times. It can be hit or miss, but probably 'hit' more often than not. Check long range forecasts for temperature and see if they are expected to get warmer temperatures earlier than normal this spring.

The storms / snowfall is more unpredictable. Breck does a good job of making and keeping snow on the mountain, so you'll have something to ski that time of year regardless.

It's often some of the best snow of the season.

Skied Copper on Easter last year(April 17th) had one of the best powder days ever, was lapping the 3 bears lift until my legs gave out. Never waited for a single lift.

Early April should generally be good. March is the snowiest month, and April has its fair share of big powder days.
