The GF and I (mid-20s) have a trip planned to Seattle for the week before Christmas (4 full days.)

Looking for somewhat specific recommendations on outdoor activities (hikes, etc.) that will be open/enjoyable that time of year. Not looking to ski.

Planning on renting a car to visit Leavenworth already, so not opposed to having to drive other places as well.

Any other Seattle wintertime recs are welcomed as well. TIA.

Vancouver WA or Vancouver BC? Because I think Canada is still closed.

I mean, I get the whole protest bit going on currently, but any other reason besides that?

You wouldn't know protests where going on unless you went looking for them. I would be more concerned with rainy, cold weather.

I havent experienced winter around here yet but theres a lot to do. I've avoided going downtown, suburbs and outskirts are fine to do things. Hiking wise, how long of a hike are you looking for? Full day, half day, moderate/difficult?

Plenty of wineries, breweries, and distilleries around Woodinville. If i find some other things over next few months i'll update

If trump gets re-elected the rioting could get worse.

Probably about a half day, with easy to moderate difficulty. I found a few searching the web (Franklin Falls, Heather Lake Trail, Wallace Falls), but was just curious if anyone had any personal recs.

I just wasn't sure if things like hiking or taking a ferry out to any of the islands were available/enjoyable in December.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look around Woodinville.

Winter weather is usually pretty mild in Seattle but changes big time as you head east. Higher elevation hikes are going to be a no go due to snow. Look into Cougar Mountain and Rattlesnake Ridge. Both are normally super crowded due to being close to Seattle but should be fine in December... Especially on a week day. You'll need AWD and maybe chains to get over either the I90 or HWY 2 mountain pass to Leavenworth. Might look into snowshoeing somewhere since you don't ski. Maybe Snoqualmie. I ski Alpental quite a bit and always see snowshoers walking to some trails at the base. Also plenty to do in Seattle. Check out Fremont and Ballard. Breweries are all open now but most bars are not. Assuming that will change by December. Stay away from Capitol Hill and you won't see a protestor. Seattle is awesome regardless of what other posters say. Moved here six years ago from Dallas. Was in BR before that. Normal dude, not Antifa.

Awesome. Thank you!
Have seen Snoqualmie pop up before so I'll give it a look.

Good to know about the breweries. I was slightly worried about things like that not being open due to Covid so I wanted to make sure I could at least do some outdoor activities.

Not the best time for outdoor stuff. December is typically dark and rainy (look up sunrise and sunset times).

Yeah, I realize this. Unfortunately we're kind of stuck with these dates due to job/school. Going to just make the best of it.

Rent snowshoes.

Eta....it's only closed if a gate stops you. Otherwise everything is open, just be prepared. Snow doesn't stop you. It just slows you down.

Really hoping it'll be at least somewhat normal in December.

I could easily do an entire trip solely based off of food and drink.

How far from Seattle will you be traveling?
In Leavenworth, Check out there reindeer farm, the kids and wife loved it. There’s some good hiking near Leavenworth but I’ve only been in summer. Colchuck Lake is a gorgeous hike but strenuous.

Olympic National Park is awesome

Don't have anything really set yet. Probably willing to drive 3hrs max for a day trip out to somewhere.
Half thinking about just staying in Leavenworth for a night.
