I will be going to Washington state in Sept and can spend one day in Seattle or just leave the area upon arrival and hit somewhere else. The news makes it look like a used-needle hell hole with sewage on the streets. Is it worth a day?

You have already answered your question with your "media-enhanced" belief. Don't bother proving yourself wrong.

It’s nothing special imo. Especially if you’re headed to the mountains. I’d rather be there

Depends on what you like. There's a few things worth seeing in Seattle but it depends on your tradeoff. I wouldn't just go hang out downtown.

Dude there is lots to see and experience in Seattle.
Schedule a city tour and get a feel for the place including all the neighborhoods and parks. They will take your to the Ballard Lock and you can see the salmon steps.

I took a sailboat tour out of downtown once that was very nice

this just depends on what you want to do, but yes, Seattle is easily worth spending a day exploring

did Washington state in July. Yes, the outdoor experience was incredible but Seattle is definitely worth one day of tourist time.

seattle is like alot of larger cities, the problems are overblown in that it's not really any different. hit a couple of tourist sites, some good restaurants, and a brewery or dispensary. or both

The best part of Seattle is the natural setting

Ourside of that it's a bunch of steel, glass, concrete, breweries and restaurants like any other city.

Pikes place is way overrated. Museum of flight is pretty cool though.

I'm not a fan of Seattle in general. I personally find it depressing. I do like the parks and green spaces and parts of the waterfront. The people are the epitome of MEH. But sure, check it out. There are loads of great restaurants and bars.

Now Vancouver? THAT is a great city.

What’s funny about that? I was there for three plus weeks once and it rained the entire time ( literally rained every day) and the temperature was low to mid 40s and it sucked. Of the 50 days I have spent in that city it was rainy and grey probably 80% of the time. I find that depressing. No thank you. Too many other places.

Victoria is pretty cool too

Give me a day in Seattle and I'd probably take the ferry to Victoria

Weather is your reasoning but you are praising Vancouver? It rains both more frequently and more heavily in Vancouver. They have slightly more days with rain and no sunshine and almost double the amount of annual rainfall.

One thing I've learned perusing this site is that one cannot argue with those fortunate enough to live in the sought after state of Louisiana. If anything, keeping those people out of desirable destinations will be better for the world. We can't all be lucky enough to live in beautiful Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Anyone done the seaplane from Seattle to Victoria? Looks like the ferry is 2.5 hours one way.

Is that the fast boat?
Either way, I bet a seaplane would be awesome.

Damn, never thought I’d agree with roger on anything (well, at least nothing posted on the OT), but I agree with both his takes- pikes place is overrated and Victoria is definitely worth a visit.
