So we are going to be in Rome for 3 nights in April. We will be taking the train into Termini from the airport. We would like to walk to most sites from our room.
Budget is going to be a bit tight, so looking into a B&B compared to a hotel. Looks like the pricing is better. Does anyone have any insight to which neighborhood or place would be best to stay? Also maybe some areas to stay away from?
We will be going to the Colloseum, Vatican on tours and would like to walk to Trevi, Pantheon, Spanish steps and Piazza Navona during our stay.
I know it is a lot of questions, but I hate to stay in a bad spot our first days in Italy.

The area around Termini is less than desirable. You'll fare better staying closer to the historic center ("Centro Storico"), in the old Jewish Ghetto, or just across the river in Trastevere. Roma is pretty compact, so you can walk almost everywhere, and the trams and buses will take you where you need to go, cheaply.

B&B pricing is usually on par with small hotels--the independent, locally owned ones. I prefer apartments, so I don't have a specific hotel to recoomend in Rome, but you might also consider staying in the guest house of a religious order--the rooms are often simple but very clean, in interesting buildings. Not party central, but perfectly nice, often with very lovely other guests. Don't go expecting a bar or a swimming pool, LOL, but you might enjoy the more sincere, welcoming atmosphere found there. I am the definition of a novice traveler so plenty here can give you loads better advice than myself I imagine. I went to Rome about a year ago and my wife and I stayed in an air bnb near the fountain hosted by a lady named sylvia, see her page here: LINK

It's extremely close to the trevi fountain and we also walked to the coliseum and vatican. Didn't hit the others you mentioned. Sylvia was super helpful (spoke fine english) and even arranged a taxi to pick us up from the airport on our arrival and arranged one for us back to the airport afterward. Despite being super close to the fountain we didn't hear any of the hubub, it was perfectly nice and quiet in her building.

That's truly my only experience wiht rome so it's all I can provide, btu I had no issues whatsoever staying with her and thought it was a great value for the price.

Staying around the Castle San Angelo is pretty perfect- about equidistant to Vatican and Pantheon. Not too long walk to Via Veneto (leading to Borghese Gallery). I walked to Coliseum from there but it is a bit of a haul

I will check these out, One thing I noticed was the price change from just a few weeks. I have to move my vacation later in April due to work. The prices seem to go up by about 30% from early April to mid April.
May consider moving vacation forward to second week of March. Not sure if it will be too cool at that time of the year to enjoy it?

I think you’ll Enjoy yourself WAY more in March. Rome gets very, very crowded. The best time I had visiting was in November/December trips.

Trastevere is the correct answer.

Has a great vibe, and plenty easy to walk to all the sights from it. It’s also away from all the tourist rabble and tourist traps.

Easter through September brings higher prices in Rome.
March will have comfortable temps, with maybe a little rain. No worries, just pack a raincoat. Definitely smaller crowds before Easter season.

It is currently 1:06am Roman time and I'm lying in bed wide awake in a Trasteverde BnB. Listen to everyone else. This neighborhood is great. I think we paid something like $70 a night for our room and it is better than any hotel room.

I have a question. Do they have uber in Italy? Someone was saying take a taxi to our hotel but it's very pricey. What about Uber? Is it comparable, less or more than a taxi?

We stayed in the Prati neighborhood and had a great time. It was much cheaper than staying on the other side of the Tiber but was still walkable. We walked to the Forum, Spanish Steps, Colosseum, Pantheon, and the Jewish Ghetto. We taxied to Borghese and Vatican because our guide wanted us there at a early time in the AM and we wanted the time to eat breakfast.

We’d usually walk there and depending on how tired we were- or how much time we’d spent- we’d get a taxi back. Use the app called “free now” it is Uber but for taxis. Works exactly the same.

We stayed in the general area of the Trevi fountain, which was great because signs and monuments can help guide you walk back to your place. Get far enough away to avoid the tourist stuff, though.
Next trip we will do trestevare. Easy walk to everything and better prices

My favorite area to stay in Rome is in the Piazza Navona or Campo de Fiore neighborhoods which are just a few blocks away from each other. Beautiful area, plenty to do and see, many good restaurants and an easy walk to everywhere else.

Unfortunately, our travel agent booked our lodging here for ease of travel and I agree. We spent zero time in the area outside of sleeping. Noisy and unsafe vibe.

I've stayed near the Termini, Spanish Steps, and across the river by St. Peters. Enjoyed the area by Spanish Steps the best. Stayed at the Hotel Homs. Easy walk or short Uber to just about everything. Should be able to find something not terrible in the area for ~$100 a night. The area around the Termini is sketch. I had to leave a rental street parked overnight once and thought for sure it wouldn't be there in the morning. Felt like I was too far out of the mix when I stayed out by the Vatican.

Trastevere. I went recently and it is an amazing area. My girlfriend and I loved every moment; tons of restaurants.

Trastevere. I loved Rome, and I think staying in Trastevere in a quiet AirBnB away from the crowds but close to everything played a huge part in that. We took a train from the airport and walked to our apartment.
