We are heading to RNP the last week of May for Vacation. I would have liked to have gone a week or two later but that is how our schedules worked out. I haven’t been there since I was a kid, over 40 years ago. It will be me, wife and kids(21 and 18).
I was looking at staying at RiverStone/Bearpaw and wondered if anyone stayed there before. Any other recommendations? 4 full days in RNP

Any outfitters or recommendations for horseback rides and whitewater rafting?

Any easy to moderate trails you recommend?

Other recommendations?

I have done a lot of research but want to compare to what y’all have done as well

Also going to end trip for 2 days in Denver

for rafting, i think you'll have to head back towards ft collins. We rafted the Poudre River about 4-5 years ago in July and the river was pretty calm. I'd think in May the river will likely be high w/ great rapids.

for trails that are pretty easy, try bear lake and alberta falls. we really enjoyed it, and i was a lot fatter at the time lol. Bear lake is pretty flat, alberta is a little climb

Late May is mud season and we have had the snowiest and coldest winter in a decade up here.

The Lake hikes around Bear Lake are really good and should be dryish then. Emerald and Dream (same hike) pretty damn great and accessible. The hike up to Bierstadt Lake is cool, the lake itself not so much. It is south facing so might be dry,
In the Fall section of the park, Gem Lake is south facing so should be good by then. It is kind of steep but short.

Estes Cone in the Long's area has a small possibility of being clear. If for some reason Chasm Lake is clear enough you should suck it up and do it. It seems hard but is really easy, it never gets steep. Twin Sisters is cool but may be a little above your pay grade as far as length and elevation gain.

Adams Falls by Grand Lake is easy and pretty cool.

In Denver, if Evans or whatever the stupid shite they are renaming it to is open you should drive to the top of it. It usually opens Memorial Day weekend.

It’s going to be pretty snowy still then. If you are interested in any long hikes, I’d think about renting spikes from Estes Park Mountain Shop.

I’ll be there in July. Where are you staying v

We are looking at the riverstone and bear paw.

I know it is going to be hit or miss when we are there which is a drag, but unfortunately that is how our schedule worked out. I figure we will still have some fun….not planning any strenuous stuff anyway, and the main road will likely still be closed, but hoping we can still get some pretty hikes in

Go to Grand Lake, not Estes Park. Late May is a great time to go to the west side of the park as there are fewer people near Grand Lake. Note that you can still get heavy enough snowfall and cold temps that time of year that can result in the main road’s closure. Recommend the trails around the Colorado River headwaters and the Never Summer range.

I really liked Mount Ida hike but May is early and the trail below tree line will likely be snow covered and hard to find. Lot of trails will probably be like unfortunately. Also I would be prepared for snow showers up at high altitude. I was hiking up near the continetial divide near Ward, Colorado (Near RMNP) memorial day last year and snow showers were rolling off the divide. It was cool AF literally and figuratively to watch.

RMNP is one of those places everybody in the U.S.should see... blew me away.

Drive slow in the park.

If you take the highway along the east side, don't be in a hurry.. you can't go fast and live to tell about it.

For lunch between Denver & RMNP, the Whole Foods in Boulder is a good place to stop for lunch - I know, sounded nuts to me, but it was unique and easy to get to off main rd.
