This. There is a 4 miles of "dirt road" at the end of the traditional Hana Hwy that you should have Jeep for, but once you are past that the backside road is fantastic. Very few cars and the road seems to be new and just a great drive . It is an all day trek but seeing 125 miles of Maui in one day is incredible tour of the island.

It was simple gorgeous the day we did the entire loop of the island.

The tall grass blowing in the wind on the south side of the volcano was one of the prettiest sites we saw on Maui.

This is a pic not far from the Church that's back there.

The Church

Th water is kinda blue

The nice road to cruise back home

I was in Maui last week and I didn't do it. I've confirmed Maui is my least favorite island. Just a bunch of old people. The night life is trash. I wish I had stayed in Paia and not Kaanapali. At least Maui wasn't the whole trip. I did get to see The Eddie surf competition on Oahu and lava on the big island.

Agree. Actually Made the loop in a mustang. Had to take it slow at first just past Hana but your pics reminded me of how beautiful it is on the back side.

We rented a jeep and did it. It was amazing. Really a wonderful experience until we were on our way back.

A mudslide blocked the road about halfway back to our condo. We had to go back the other way around at night. My a-hole was super tight

Great pics! We did the same loop all the way around and I agree, it’s the way to go. The “dirt road” isn’t as treacherous as some make it out to be. During wet season it may be something else though.

It’s a side of Maui most won’t see and still quite a few people living off the grid out there.

Very few cars

I saw a handful and 3 were tourist group busses which I promptly passed up.

Great drive and more views of the ocean than the road to Hana.

Same. Beautiful drive.

I didn't have any intention of doing the whole loop when we started but after I saw the gaggle of drivers whom couldn't drive to save their life I pulled my phone out and checked maps.

Time was basically the same except the roads were clear. And away we went. Great choice.

I got several strange looks . They definitely aren't used to cars continuing on from Hana.

We rented a Jeep and did the trail to the blow hole. It was a very pretty drive and very narrow roads. It took us about 4 hours to do stopping a lot. Would highly recommend if you don’t do the road to Hana. One of the locals suggested it and was great

That's the west Maui loop.

I've done it. It's a beautiful drive.

Definitely recommend.

Yes we did that one too. One complete trek at sunrise and once just to the blow hole during the day. The back end of that road was the most dangerous road of all.

We had to literally get out and move rocks from a recent rock slide at the point it becomes a single lane road. I sent my wife and daughter out there to move the rocks and to them to hurry as more rocks could come at any second!!

Here's the blow hole in all it's glory.

This. Plus, not too far past Hana you can turn left off the road and take a couple of rabbit trails to get to the church and graveyard where Charles Lindbergh is buried. It’s quite beautiful there.

Kinda here because you can probably get a lot better night life in many places other than Hawaii for a lot cheaper price. I'm not thinking most people travel there for the night life.
