Depends on the budget.

If money is no object, I’m going to Snowmass if I have children coming with us.

Steamboat let’s kids ski free with a paying adult.

Copper Mountain is always ranked high for families

We go to steamboat every year with children under 8. It's a great place to ski with kids and they have a great ski school.

There is a poster on this board that currently lives in Steamboat, he can give you the full rundown.

Forgot his name though.

Vail and beaver creek are great for kids, really great ski schools. Just insanely expensive.

Beaver Creek is the ritzy ski destination for young kids learning to ski, therefore it's really expensive. However, it does have a great ski school and a lot of kid friendly green runs. It also has a lot of other activities to keep kids occupied.

Steamboat is a good option for young families, and as a previous post mentioned, a poster lives in Steamboat.

Others that are known for catering to kids/beginners:
Deer Valley/Park City
Winter Park
Telluride
Snowmass

Advice: Skiing keeps getting more expensive & adding kids to a trip makes it astoundingly expensive.
You will be hauling a lot of gear. Look for a rental place or ski school that will store the kids' gear. Even if you find an awesome ski in/out place to stay, you will be hauling gear to ski school everyday.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Crested Butte. Kids under 12 ski free. Best overall beginner and intermediate mountain. Rarely has lift lines, even during Spring Break. A lot of Texans ski here. All 3 of our kids learned to ski here starting at age 3 (our youngest is now age 23). Easy to get to - direct flights from Houston and Dallas to Gunnison and then 30 minute shuttle from there. Doesn't get the Denver crowd because it is too hard to get to from Denver. Prices on lodging and ski rentals is very reasonable. Caters to families.

Gotta agree here. Seems to be no love for CB on this site. The place is great for families. Only drawback I've found is that the air prices to Gunnison are kinda ridiculous. But then, it's almost like having a charter to the place. The flights in and out are for one purpose only.

The kids skiing program is great. There's a "camp" type program for real young kids that breaks up the day with non-snow activities to keep them from losing interest. The instructors are great with the kids.

any recommendations on ski schools and what prices generally are?

WE're going with a 5 y.o, and 3.5 y.o, and a 1.5 y.o. (obviously wont be skiing)

I think Steamboat is only free for kids if you buy a five day adult lift ticket.

I might be wrong.

Does Frisco make anyone's list? I'm in the same boat as OP and was really thinking Winter Park and Frisco were my 2 finalists for a 2019 trip.

Frisco?? You just quoted a list that included Breck and Keystone which are about 15 and 20 minutes from Frisco respectively.
