We are planning a trip next spring to head to Oregon and Canada. I am in charge of the Canada portion of the trip. We will have 2 full days in the Vancouver area and looking for any recommendations to do. Thinking of heading to Whistler one day, but not sure if it would be worth it in mid April. Would love to do a snow mobile or dog sledding activity.

Also if anybody has any advice on how we should travel between the cities it would be appreciated. I see it's over a 5 hour drive and we don't want to spend that much on the road. I also heard you might be able to take a train.

Any advice is appreciated.

Amtrak Cascades runs that route and is a great way to get there, though I don’t know the travel time from Portland. We took it from Seattle to Vancouver and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Consider it.

I’ll try to chime back in later with other recs.

I made the drive from Seattle to Vancouver one July and the trip from Vancouver up to Whistler was the most beautiful

Mid April should coincide with the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival . It is between Seattle and Vancouver and is a must do if you are in the area and the flowers are out. La Conner and Chuckanut Drive are worth while if you do the festival.

Stanley Park is a great place to spend a day if the weather is right. Nice spot to rent & ride bikes. It's sprawling so you can spend most of a day there.

Granville Island is a little touristy, but has a ton to offer food-wise.

We only did two full days, so didn't have time for Whistler IMO.

If you need restaurant/bar recs, I can try and help with that too.

I would consider going to Victoria and taking the ferry over to Vancouver. Victoria is awesome.

The Capilano suspension bridge in Vancouver nice and just on the outskirts. I would definitely recommend driving from Vancouver to Whistler for a day, the 'Sea to Sky' Highway is incredibly scenic and provides several photo ops along the way.
