Got a deal and going down there for 3 nights next month. Besides dodging cartel bombings, what other attractions should I try to do? Would it be worth a day trip to Isla Mujeres?

Nice little strip of shopping right next to resort . Bars there too if want to let wife or SO shop. Felt pretty safe there

Besides dodging cartel bombings,
A big myth. I go to a way more dangerous area of Mexico than pdc for business and never have issues. Which resort are you staying at. Stayed at the Yucatan Princess last Thanksgiving. Great time.

Staying at a newer hotel called reef 28, so not really a resort. But it says all inclusive so I guess I'll see what's it all about when I get there.

Go to one of the national parks with cenotes in it. Swim around or snorkel. Fishing is decent if you're into that. Visit Tulum beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Walk the beach and visit different bars and cabanas.
Also Xplor is awesome. Underground rivers you can canoe and swim inside and the largest tallest zip line in Mexico. Beautiful property. We went at night and had a blast. Also a great buffet to eat at too.

Going myself in 4 weeks. Secrets. Last year we were in that area and did a combo trip that took us to Tulum then we snorkeled in one of the Cenotes and then to Akumal Bay which was a great snorkeling bay.

Did you mean Xcaret? Ive heard good and bad but it looks awesome
OP, i wanted to eat some non touristy Mexican food so i asked the resort attendant where he and his wife eat when they want good Mexican. He told me to go to El Fogon. It’s a quick walk from 5th street downtown. I still think about that meal. Dirt cheap and amazing.

I have eaten here, I thought the food was good but not incredible. El muelle was excellent

Went to Xcaret in late May. Great time. There's a ton of stuff to see, so I'd give myself a full day there.

Really can't go wrong on any of the eco parks. I prefer Xel Ha due to not being as crowed.

I love Isla, it is one of my favorite vacation spots anywhere, but I think you would be wasting a lot of time for your short trip.
If you have a car and can drive early in the morn to Cancun...reserve an early morn spot on the Jungle Tour, one of the best values. Otherwise, I would stay in Playa, visit Xcaret and/or other attractions around and cross over to Cozumel.

No, that is not where we went. The places we went were a good ways apart and the lagoon we snookered in is in the picture above I believe.

FYI. Turns out the ferry bombing wasn’t the cartels. It looks like it was good old insurance fraud by one of the owners. Everyone just jumped to the (not unreasonable) conclusion it was the cartels. The State Dept has cancelled the travel warnings and the Embassy is open.

Anywhere else I should try to eat at?

It has been a couple of years since I have been. I am sure a lot has changed. I normally use the TripAdvisor app to search out restaurants that get good ratings, i then look at the menus and photos of the food to decide if it is a place worth visiting. The app gives you the ability to save favorites and you can view them on a map, which makes it very handy

I looked back and could not find my ticket stubs from when we went (I know, I keep shite).
We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach, which is where we are going in 4 weeks.
Booked the excursion through Amstar. They are the transfer company we use.

They have been a very solid transfer company for us in the Caribbean for many years

We are going in 2 weeks. I have 3 girls - 11, 8 and 4. Which park is best for us - Xcarat or Xel-ha? Or any other tour / excursions?
Posted on 7/15/18 at 2:51 pm to buford4LSU
Because of the 4 year old I am going to say xel-ha. Xcaret is a lot of ziplining, which means tower climbing with a little one. No thanks.

We always make a trip to Plank, but it's been about 2 years since.
