What are must do’s? What events (if any) might be happening? What are the must eat restaurants? Etc.

French Quarter Festival LINK
is in April, good way to sample all kinds of food and bands
Restaurant wise, if you want any of the fancier type restaurants you probably need to get a reservation at least two months out like for Commanders Palace

we recently stayed at the st Vincent on magazine and it was incredible. Expensive but well worth it for the accommodations and location
Don’t stay on canal street
Either stay in the lower garden or inside the quarter (royal orleans or monteleone etc)

Bienville House
We stayed here last May. It is close to most things and a nice hotel. The only downside is a very small and slow elevator. But if you are on vacation who cares.

Just an unreal property. Kudos to whoever dropped the coin to make it such.

Be careful at night, if a place looks sketchy, if probably is.
Stay at a place that has a safe place to put your car.

No Clancy’s or Gautreau’s on that list? They are way above many listed here.

Solid list of restaurants and I second the st. Vincent’s. It’s a wonderful hotel and provides a real experience.
Few other hotels:
Maison de la luz in warehouse district
Four seasons (but only if riverside. Canal street rooms face a construction site at the casino and it’s noisy)
Columns hotel - have not been, but have heard positive things about rooms post renovations.
Additional restaurants:
Clancy’s - uptown bistro experience
Luvi - if you want sushi/soup dumplings
Lilly’s cafe on magazine - Vietnamese food
Saint-Germaine - prix-fix restaurant
Marjie’s Grill - solid spicy fushion
Barrow’s catfish - only if you want fried catfish plate
El Pavo Real - a terrific great weekend brunch spot that is never crowded and has great daily specials
Casamento’s - go only if you want raw and fried oysters. My personal happy place.

Geautreau’s and Clancy’s are two of my favorites but they can be inconvenient for visitors to get to.

Not for a tourist but they are great restaurants.
