Planning a ski trip, need suggestions/advice

So looking to plan a ski trip for our family, 12 or us. Looking to spend $1500 tops per night on lodging. Just seeing what the board thinks as to where would be a good spot. Doesn’t have to be ski in/ski out. Some of the older folks would like lower elevation. I would have liked to do Breckenridge but the thought it may be too high. Any suggestions or experience would be great.

If elevation is an issue, I’d look to Utah or Tahoe. Sun Valley maybe, but it’s a bit pricey.
Park City is a good choice. Plenty for everyone to do

Steamboat Springs is about the same elevation as Breckenridge.

When are you going? If you are not going peak snow time, be careful with the lower elevations as there may not be much snow. I know you don't mean on top of the mountain, but still.
Also, how old are you talking about? I mean if they are like 70+ and just bumming around the house all day and going to town for dinner then I don't know why the elevation matters? Kinda seems odd to me to go on an expensive ski vacation and not want to be in the mountains is what I'm saying.

With that many people I would definitely choose Park City/Canyons area
Low elevation, close to international airport and plenty to do for everyone

Breckinridge is roughly 9,600 for above sea level
Steamboat is roughly 6,700.
Park City 7000
ETA: here is a link. Numbers slightly different than above but close. Steamboat and the Park City area resorts are pretty much exactly the same. Breck is high as shite.
Jackson Hole is low elevation also, but expensive.

Hard to beat Park City or Tahoe, all of them have multiple ski resorts within an hour drive, and all have varied terrain.

Ah, you're right. I was was mixed up with ski mountain elevation.

The Arrabelle Hotel in Vail is my favorite. It’s a beautiful hotel, lots to do around it, and the gondola to get up the mountain is 20 feet from the hotel doors.
Lots of various slopes in Vail for all abilities.
We rent everything from there, including clothes. We don’t even bring jackets with us for the most part.

Winter Park should be high on your list for a family.
Maybe Snowmass too...
Less popular, but still accessible:
Powder Mountain UT
Copper Mountain CO
Keystone CO
Loveland CO

Squaw Valley for my money.
Nice little ski village set up, beautiful suites can be had for under 400 per room.
Elevation is between 7000-8700.
Hosted Winter Olympics back in the 60's and still has some remnants of that

Squaw Valley is great, I’ve only been there in the summer. Close to Truckee which is a cool town.
Same neck of the woods is Northstar. A lot of great mountains around Tahoe.

We went to Mammoth mid April last year and stayed in town. Cost $130 a night for family of four. Shuttles in town bring you right to slopes. I saw some bigger condo/houses that could fit a dozen for good prices at that time also.
We loved Mammoth. Will go back.

Yaya, I am fortunate enough to live 2 hours away so we head up as much as possible
Got a room last season and foot and a half dumped overnight, my boys loved it

No way can 12 people squeeze into there for $1,500/night. A 2 BR runs around $2k/night during ski season.
It’s a great place, but you pay for the convenience and amenities.

My CO friends all love the Utah powder. They always tell me I need to go but stars just haven't lined up.

I'm putting together our annual trip right now.
We're going to Mammoth 9-12 people.
I've found 6 different houses between 1400-1000/night, sleeping 10-14, and are between 50 feet and 100 yds from the gondola in Mammoth Village. It's very nice.
I think we're going in early March, as historically that's when Mammoth gets most of their snow dumps.
Terrain is awesome looking. 2-3 of us ski very very difficult terrain (almost never coming off the peaks of mountains where we go) and 5-6 are blue cruisers, and a couple of greenie weenies. Mammoth looks nice to cater to all levels.
