Going to the UP in September via Wisconsin. On the way back thinking about stopping in Traverse City and Frankenmuth. I normally visit Wisconsin and the westside of the UP for family but rarely cross over into the main side of Michigan. I like pub food and breweries and am looking for a few stops as I make my way down through Ohio, West Virginia to North Carolina. Two weeks by myself to burn so I can stop or stay as long as I find it interesting.

Frankenmuth is not worth going out of the way for.

Petoskey
Charlevoix
Traverse City
Glen Arbor
Sleeping Bear Dunes
Frankfort
Ludington
Grand Rapids
Grand Haven
Saugatuck
South Haven

This is a list of places in north/west Michigan that I recommend. It’s in geographical order working toward Ohio

I haven't been through the western section of West Virginina so I'm open to anything there off the beaten path.

Kitchi-iti-kipi springs in the UP is a must IMHO.

The other posters recommendations about Traverse City area are good. Pinconning for cheese if you are going that way.
