My passport expired and I need to renew, what is the best way to renew your passport?

I was looking at this passportcenter.com, but It wants me to pay without sending a picture in or anything. This does not seem right to me, any help would be appreciated

depends, if you don't have a trip planned, what's wrong with doing it the conventional way? if you're in a hurry(plan better,) go to a passport office with an itinerary and get an expedited one

It’s been a while for me, but I think you should be looking for a “.gov” website. The post office could also answer your questions.

US State Dept. - Bureau of Consular Affairs

All passport renewals eventually go thru the US State Department. If you go thru passportcenter.com or any other websites, your renewal will still go to the State Dept and you will get raped in the wallet. ETA: and your renewal will take another 2 weeks or longer.

I renewed my passport in February and got it back in 3 weeks.

1. Go to State Dept. website
2. Follow their step-by-step instructions

...am I missing something here?

US Post Office typically handles passport renewals also.

1) Get new pictures.
2) Mail pictures, old passport, and check to government.
3) Receive new passport in the mail in a few weeks.

There is nothing complicated about it.

I've used PassportCenter.com / PassportRenewal.com and it's legit.

It's so much better to use that and fill everything in at your fingertips and have it tracked than anything else at all and especially going to the Post Office or State Department office.

Yeah, I had no idea there were private services that dealt with passport stuff. It just screams "waste of money" to me.

It's a waste of money. You can submit the application easily and free at POs and other designated sites. Using the online application, you can still "fill in everything at your fingertips" right on your screen.

I can understand using an expediter if you've got a hard deadline for receipt and have waited until the last minute, but otherwise, you're spending unnecessary funds. I'd rather spend money on vacation than on BS help in the acquisition of a renewed passport.

Yes, but not all of them do. Call before you haul.

It was quick turnaround for me 2 years ago. Around 2-3 weeks.

Just to add, they also send your old passport back in a separate mailer so you get the keepsake.

I know some would be worried about that.

Just go to the post office and they will handle everything for you. Make sure you bring a check and your old passport. The post office will have the form you need to fill out and take your picture for you. I recently had to renew mine, and it only took a couple weeks to come in.
