I'm looking at taking my wife and two kids (17 and 7) to the beach for a last minute trip before school starts back. We normally go to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach but, we're looking at going somewhere different. When I look up and down the coast, I noticed that PCB has some really nice condos and are cheaper than Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, or Destin. I know a lot of people think PCB is trashy. I haven't been in like 15-20 years. Is it really that bad? Any recommendations are welcomed. We are looking to go for a long weekend next weekend.

No it's not bad at all and I think the trashy stuff is a bit overblown. We stayed in Seagrove Beach 3 weeks ago and took a day trip to PCB to do a dolphin cruise and mini golf. Nothing at all that would stop us from going back to play or stay. It's been 4 years since we've rented a condo but IMO it's roughly the same class of people you see in Destin and OB/GS, save for a few rough looking people. I say go for it and enjoy clearer water than OB/GS while also saving a few bucks over Destin.

We stayed at the Shores of Panama and the pool area is really nice there.
There are some older ones I would probably avoid but they do have some nice ones.

Do the Shell Island tour, you go out on these small fast boats and swim with dolphins and go hang out at shell island.

I mean I wouldn't go for spring break but it's nice during summer and into Sept/Oct. They have cleaned up and cracked down a lot of the issues they were having with all the drunk college kids mostly in the spring.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

I remember reading something about them banning alcohol on the beach. Is that just during spring break or did they implement it permanently? I was kind of wondering if this might be a big reason why condo prices were so cheap.

Were the beaches more crowded than GS/OB?

We went to PCB the year of the oil slick. It was largely indistinguishable from any of the other NW Florida or AL coastal towns. Beach and water were every bit as nice. I'd say less crowded, but it's possible the threat of the oil slick kept people home when we went there.

PCB is nice. Destin is overall prettier but pricey. I alternate between Destin and PCB for my beach vacation.

We arrived the weekend after the 4th of July so there was still LOTS of vacationers in northwest Florida at that time. Even Seagrove Beach was more crowded than I expected it to be although not nearly as crowded as PCB and definitely not as crowded as Destin.

Was in the exact same situation, wanted something different from OB/GS, so we went to PCM two weeks ago.I've honestly never been to the beach over many years and it be so crowded. It was almost to the point where it wasnt enjoyable due to the amount of people. With that said, the water was indeed better that OB/GS, however considering the amount of people I wouldnt go back. Condo was ok, stayted at Grand Panama (through AirBNB), parking and elevators sucked really bad. Went to two resturants off the beach in an attempt to get a good mean both were ok, but i've had much better food in OB.I hadnt been to PCB in over 20 years and likely wont go back.

Forgot to mention, no issue with alcohol on the beach. There are also tons of folks with canopies. Chair/umbrella rentals are at least $40 per day, they ask for $45, but you can talk 'em down

I've read reviews about several of the condos and there seems to be a consensus about the parking and elevators. We decided to stay at the Edgewater. It's a giant complex but, it has 11 pools. We figured that if the main pool got too crowded then we could just go to another one. I'm hoping that since it's getting close to time when kids are going back to school that it won't be too crowded. I'll report back once we get back. If anyone has any recommendations on good places to eat, I'd like to hear them. We probably won't eat out too many times but, I'd like to know of any good places.

If You end up going to PCB and want some good fried Seafood, go to Hunt's Oyster Bar in downtown PCB. Be prepared to wait, but You can sit outside and drink your own beer while you do.

The Moonspinner

Older condo near St. Andrews State Park. It is really nice beach on the quieter end. Love visiting the park as well.

Loved our stays at the Moonspinner.

One year, saw a 10 point buck from the State Park on the dune from our balcony.

Easy walk to the Park, down the beach.

Latitude 29 condos. From the pool to the beach is 3 steps up a little staircase. More private than a high rise.
