Norwegian out of New Orleans

We’re thinking about taking a cruise on NCL out of NOLA. Is this generally a rowdy crowd like you see on cheap Carnival cruises or is it nicer?

I have taken that cruise as well as Carnivals out of NOLA.
NCL is much nicer.

Norwegian is classier. If I were you, I’d drive the extra miles to the port of Galveston to make sure none of the usual New Orleans folk will be on the ship.

NCL has been making a ton of cuts lately.
YT $300 million in cuts Ben & David are cruising experts. They sail multiple lines yearly.
All of the lines are squeezing passengers, but NCL seems to be charging more and offering less even more than the other lines.
Tons more options in Galveston from Carnival (newest ship), an RCCL Oasis ship, MSC (don’t recommend), Princess, Disney, & NCL (newest ship).
If you’re willing to travel to Fort Lauderdale or Miami, you should check out Celebrity or Virgin Voyages.

Great info, but I’m trying to avoid flying or driving far for this trip.

I have been on several cruises out of New Orleans and that is the reason I take them. I can visit exotic locations in other countries by having someone drive me 20 minutes from my house. We don’t get the biggest and best ships. but we always have fun.

One piece of advice I have is the 7 day trips generally have a lot better crowd than the 4-5 day trips (on all cruise lines)

Agreed.

NCL is bringing the Prima to NOLA in 2026 I think. New ship, same size as the Breakaway and such but carries 3/4 the passengers. More premium experience at a higher price. 7 day only I think.

I think the Prima class ships look cool AF. Every YT video I see about them praises the food but trashes the size of the venues onboard as not being big enough.
I’ve wanted to try NCL for awhile but they commandeer so much of the top deck space with for fee experiences (The Haven, Vibe Beach Club, race tracks, ropes courses). There just never looks like there’s a lot of deck space up top on the deck plans. At least the Prima class has added some on the promenade deck…

Actually, if I ever do “cruise”, I’m going to spend an ungodly amount to attempt to dodge the riff-raff.
Being stuck for a week or more on a floating petrie dish with walmartians is a terrifying thought.

We took that cruise in March 2020, in fact, we were the last cruise when COVID shut it all down. We were hoping we weren't going to be stuck out at sea like some of the other ones were.
We took the 7-night cruise, the boat was nice, and I didn't meet anyone from New Orleans, there were people from all over the world there. I met people from Ireland, England, Sweeden and a lot of people from across the states but we were the only ones from Louisiana we talked to and we're from Shreveport which according to most here isn't part of Louisiana anyway

Now, we didn't park at the Cruise Terminal, there were several reviews that stated that their cars were broken into. We stayed at a Holiday Inn at the Airport the night before, they had free parking and you could leave your car there during your trip, we took an Uber to the terminal.
