Have young kids so need to break up the trek. Anywhere more exciting along the way than Birmingham?

Our one trip up that way when the kids were younger we stopped in Chattanooga. Really not much else on the way that we could think of.

I'd leave in the middle of the night so they slept the first half of the trip.
Growing up my parents packed the car the night before and left at like 3 AM. By the time we were up and awake it was time to stop for gas/breakfast and the drive was half over.

Birmingham and Chattanooga have some kid friendly things to do but I would just do like the others suggested and drive early in the morning. If you left early enough, you could drive from Nola to Birmingham before the kids wake up.

We did Chattanooga. Leave real early, get there mid-day, have lunch at Hillbilly Willy's, do the Lookout Mountain attractions. Head to Pigeon Forge the next morning.

Chattanooga has a lot of outdoor activities kids would enjoy, but at that point you’ve driven most of the drive and I’d be inclined to just keep driving. If you do Birmingham the kids may like the Mcwane center.

Thanks for all the feedback! I think we may stop in Chattanooga. Maybe pick up some whiskeys!

Chattanooga may be better than the destination.

Fort Payne, AL.
This. Desoto Falls is worth the very small detour into Ft. Payne.

Driving from BR, sleeping in Tuscalusa. Driving the rest of the way the next morning.

Been a few times. Mostly drove all the way but last year we got a late start so we stopped in Tuscaloosa for the night then drove the rest of the way the next day.
This year we are leaving at 3AM and since my GF is never ready on time we’ll probably leave around 4 AM and drive straight thru

Just got back Sat. Left last Sunday, had lunch at the Cracker Barrel in Tuscaloosa. Dressed head to toe with my LSU garb. Got in to Peigon Forge around 6PM. Remember you will lose and hr, so leave early.
