We went in June and had a blast but we are considering bringing the kids over the Mardi Gras break. The prices for airline/hotel are really cheap since it’s the off-season. Anyone been in February and can comment on the weather and if it’s a good time of year to visit?

I have many times for work. It’s cold, so if your kids are too young and will whine about the temps then I don’t recommend it.

It might be a cold mofo but if you’re planning indoor activities (concerts , theatre, museums etc) then do it.

We went once in Feb for Mardi Gras. Overall it was a good trip but one morning it was 16 degrees.

We went in February one year and had a great time. It was cold, but not terribly and felt nice during the day. We still walked around Central Park, shopped and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge without any problems with the cold. Most of our evenings we planned were indoor anyway (broadway, restaurants, Knicks, Rangers)

I've only been once and it was in February or March, can't remember which. It was definitely still cold as hell, and it actually snowed extremely bad. We had to bump our flight home an extra day there was so much snow.

We got married on the top of Belvedere Castle right there in Central Park in late January, 2004

it was the coldest side I’ve ever been in my entire life, I was absolutely fricking miserable and I’m not talking about getting married

Any thoughts on best airport to fly into to go into Manhattan?

We are also going in Feb

Been for business in the winter numerous times. Its cold be prepared. Otherwise most things are open and accessible. Also be prepared to move flights around if needed and leave early if bad weather is expected. NYC is pretty decent handling snow/storms, but NYC airport delays going/coming are not something you want to deal with.

We were in NYC at the end of Feb 2020 and enjoyed it (yes, very well-timed trip). We stayed next to Bryant Park which had a temporary ice skating rink in it. The kids might enjoy that. Definitely bring your cold weather gear.

I've always flown into LGA or JFK, but was always curious about flying into newark and taking the train in. The train ride if I remember correctly from that stop is 10 minutes or less to Penn. It takes forever to get to the city from the other airports.

More frequent travelers can comment further.

EWR is the best airport to get to Manhattan IMO. Like you said, jump on train to get to Penn then can subway anywhere you want.

It'll be cold, but honestly, I've grown to like being in the city during winter since I moved to the NE. More reason to tuck into random places and maybe find something you weren't expecting.

Thanks for that. Newark may be the way to go.

Hotel was cheap. We had one rainy day and two cold days but walked and took the subway all around Manhattan.
