Didn't see another topic that was as specific to what I'm looking for so I decided to start another thread.

Which airlines are best for flying to Ireland? I've seen some good deals on Aer Lingus' website, but I also see some suggesting using Lufthansa.

Another thing is would it be cheaper to use SW points to fly into an airport in the NE and then book a separate RT flight to Ireland from there?

The wife right now is wanting to go sometime in late November/December. I know the weather isn't ideal, but I notice that the prices are pretty good at this time too.

Thoughts or experiences are welcome. TIA!

Are you flying out of MSY? There's good deals to Dublin routinely under $600 direct from multiple airports including Atlanta. I wouldn't go through the trouble of flying southwest somewhere when you can get a ticket around $600. Set a flight tracker.

The weather doesn't change a ton in Ireland year round. The only thing you'll have to deal with in the late fall and winter is the shorter days.

No shite, I caught my ticket to Portugal for 400 RT out of MSY. I would have loved to fly with someone I had a lot of points with but instead settled

Yeah MSY would be the departing airport if I went that route.

When we fly to Europe we use Southwest points to fly to NYC and spend the night. I like to break it up rather than doing all that flying in one day and worry about making a connection. But yes, sometimes you can find good prices from MSY.

I like the idea of flying up a day early to NY. Do you stay over in NY on the return flight as well or tough it out?

One great thing about flying back from Dublin is the US Customs pre-clearance.

Sometimes I stay over in NY on the return and sometimes not. If my international flight comes into JFK and I have to go to LGA to catch the Southwest flight then I will (stay in Long Island City, Queens). If I’m coming into EWR early and going out of EWR later then I don’t.
