"National Infantry Museum" in Ft. Benning area (Columbus, GA)

My wife and I drove to Columbus, Georgia, for the LSU/Auburn football game this past weekend and stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Fort Benning, adjacent to the National Infantry Museum.
The hotel is well-maintained, with plenty of well-lit parking, and offered a quiet setting. Although there are no restaurants or bars nearby, it is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Fort Benning or the museum.
The highlight of our trip was the National Infantry Museum. I was truly impressed by the sheer size of the museum, the exhibits, and the presentation of our nation's infantry history. The displays of weapons, captured equipment, historical artifacts, photographs, and videos bring history to life in a way that is deeply moving.
The museum grounds are impressive and beautifully maintained, providing a fitting setting for a place that honors the service and sacrifices of our infantry. One particularly touching experience was seeing parents saying goodbye to their sons and daughters as they departed for training.
If you are visiting Columbus, Georgia, I highly recommend you to visit the museum. Whether you have a personal connection to the military, an interest in American history, or simply want to experience something meaningful and memorable, this museum is well worth your time.
The grounds are every are as impressive as the museum itself. Beautifully landscaped featuring statues, a 1/3 scale of the of the Vietnam Memorial, and steel columns from the World Trade Center, along with military hardware.
Ft. Benning troops gather on the grounds for formations on Saturdays, unfortunately, with game kicking off so freaking early, we sadly missed the opportunity to see them.

Dis the same place I learned that a Hooters Girl made $400 in tips on a average Tuesday night in the 90s?

I 100% agree with you. We stopped there 3 years ago and were very impressed with the total experience. We spent 8 hours there and did not get to the outside exhibits. We plan to return soon.
The museum is quite impressive with the “First Hundred Yards” exhibit being the flagship display. The Huey helicopter and the Humvee are actually battle damaged vehicles that were restored. The soldiers depicted in the display are life size and modeled after the actual soldiers who performed those tasks. Soldiers actually had to audition and present their war resume then the soldiers were chosen for the display. The faces / body mimic the actual soldiers who performed the tasks. The facial details, eyes, etc are amazing.
Great museum honoring the soldiers, the Medal of Honor recipients and every war, conflict, etc that the USA was involved in. The attention to detail leaves you in awe.
We ate at the Black Cow in downtown Columbus. They had a pineapple casserole that we found delicious. Waitress said they use mayonnaise in the recipe. I have not found a recipe that uses mayonnaise for this dish.

Been stationed there a few times, last was about 10 years ago.
The Naval Civil War museum is good too, not at the same level though.
We liked the Black Cow and Mabellas and 11th and Bay for uptown restaurants at the time. Haven't been there in a while and doubt I ever go back.

Does this look about right?
Final para is ChatGPT feeding me shite, ignore it. I'd never use Duke's, I'd make it from scratch if I'm going to use it all.

COPYCAT EXPERIMENT
Pineapple, cheddar & mayonnaise casserole
Prep: 10 min · Bake: 30–35 min · Serves: 6
Sweet, savory, tangy, and buttery with a crunchy topping.
I found something unusually useful: a restaurant review explicitly identifies pineapple, mayonnaise, cheddar, brown sugar, and a crust in The Black Cow's casserole. That's independent corroboration of the waitress's claim, although it isn't an official recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks or tidbits, drained, reserving 3 tablespoons juice
- 1 cup freshly grated sharp cheddar
- 1/3 cup Duke's mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 sleeve Ritz crackers, coarsely crushed
- 4 tablespoons melted salted butter
- Pinch of salt
Method
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter an 8×8-inch baking dish.
2. Whisk mayonnaise, reserved pineapple juice, brown sugar, flour, and salt until smooth.
3. Fold in pineapple and cheddar. Transfer to baking dish.
4. Combine crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter and distribute evenly over the casserole.
5. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until bubbling and golden.
6. Rest 10 minutes before serving.
Why I'd start here
The 1/3 cup mayonnaise is an experimental amount, not a confirmed Black Cow measurement. It should give the casserole a creamy texture without overwhelming the pineapple.
There's another interesting find: a 2007 recipe from a Junior League of Columbus, Georgia cookbook uses pineapple, cheddar, flour, sugar, butter, and Ritz crackers, but no mayonnaise. That provides a particularly relevant local starting point.
I'd make the mayonnaise version first, using Duke's and sharp cheddar. If it's too creamy, reduce the mayonnaise to 1/4 cup on the next batch.
And frankly, this sounds like a strong Thanksgiving side alongside your spatchcocked turkey. It also gives you something more interesting than another bowl of mashed potatoes.

Absolutely agree with you. At first glance, the soldiers look real. Here's the one that caused a double take.
Edit - and another one.

The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robbins, GA is also a great museum. I could spend all day there if I was alone. They're less than 2 hrs away from each other with a drive through the Georgia scrub land.
