I am a beginner to intermediate skier (greens and blues…no desire to ever do blacks because I can’t handle the steepness) and I found that Steamboat was by far my favorite mountain, although I have only skied 4 resorts so far.

I like the rolling hills, a lot of really fun blues without steep peaks, and ability to do greens and blues on all parts of the mountain. I am trying to decide if I should book steamboat again or try a new town. Any suggestion's on other resorts with the above mentioned criteria?

Check out Beaver Creek.

We took our kids (11 and 8) last year to Steamboat and they really loved it and I thought it was a good place for beginners.

This year we went to Beaver Creek and in my opinion it is an even better place to ski for beginner/intermediates.

Next year we're headed to Big Sky.

I think you would really like Deer Valley in Utah, it is an intermediate skier's paradise. Nothing really steep and a ton of groomed terrian. Brighton in Utah is another option, especially if you don't want to pay Deer Valley prices.

Vail and especially Beaver Creek would be other options like Steamboat, mostly pretty mellow stuff.

Most resorts have plenty of intermediate. Stay out of Jackson, Abasin, and a few others, you’ll be fine. Crested Butte is over 50% advanced but there is still a lot of great intermediate runs.

Also, try skiing blacks, particularly groomed ones. Many blacks are essentially blues with a small steeper section that you can just take your time on. People are afraid of the signs which means there will be less people to worry about. It’s rare (actually can’t remember one) to have a single black that has a mandatory path or turn.

With all that said, Steamboat is fantastic both as a town and ski mountain. Also put Snowmass on your list for CO, Northstar for CA, and Deer Valley for UT. Coincidentally all those places are expensive.

If your family hasn’t been to Breckenridge, you should put it on your list.

Park City & Breck have plenty of blues; a good many would be harder greens elsewhere. Winter Park has good blues and some entertaining greens, including great trees.
