Morocco/Portugal
Posted by wiltznucs on 1/17/20 at 8:38 pm00
Looking for a trip in mid-March.
Family of four with a pre-teen and a 7 year old.
Never done Portugal before. Eyeing Lisbon as a potential first stop of the trip. Give it 3 days before jumping to another City.
Someone recommended Marrakech/Morocco. Have never been to Africa before and the connection is cheap.
Anybody with experience with either?

Lisbon is great. People are friendly, architecture is beautiful and food is fantastic. It's very, very, very hilly their so be prepared as you will likely do a lot of walking. We day tripped to Sintra which has a 19th century castle that is worth checking out. We also went to Porto which is smaller than Lisbon but has all the great architecture and food. Never been to Morroco.

Absolute yes on Portugal, probably a No on Morocco if I were you. It would be cool to expose your kids/family to that culture but it would probably be more stressful/annoying than it is worth...annoying street vendors and keeping an extra watchful eye on your kids would probably make it not worthwhile for me.

The Mrs. and I did Marrakech March 2019 and it has probably ended up being one of our favorite destinations. We look forward to when we can return.
We had a guide show us around and then we were very comfortable on our own. The locals were nice and liked to joke. Just avoid snake charmers, monkeys, don’t eat the street food, and be mindful of your possessions in the main square.

Marrakech might be a little scary with the young ones. Tangier or Fez would probably be the best options.

We decided to flip the script and caught a great deal to Japan instead. Thanks for all the advice!

Don't do Morocco. I would not suggest it especially on a family trip.
