La Fortezza. This is the aftermath of our last tasting there.

To show you how seriously they take Brunello over there they put a wine tasting facility inside the ancient town fort.

We love it there. They don't even charge us for our tastings as we've come to know them. Plus, we tend to buy more than a few cases of Brunello which, to me, is on the short list of greatest wines in the world.

Awesome.

Right now still trying to dope out where I’m going in France. Can’t decide if I’m going all the way to Bordeaux or not.

Have you broken the trip up into time and travel?

We spent three weeks in Spain in May. If I had to do it again I would do the shorter stops first and stay longer as I went on to relax more instead of packing every three days. With a 10 month old that becomes even more difficult. I guess I'm suggesting to find a base from which to explore in each region.

Thinking I split my 16 days in Tuscany between Siena, Greve, Montalcino and Montepulciano.

TBD on if we stop in Alba or Lucca on the way down to break up the trip. Probably skipping Monterosso.

I think I've said it already so I won't say it a 3rd time, but I think you are moving way too much and trying to do too much.

That itinerary is great for a 2 week trip.

But by day 10, 15, and 25 you are going to be sick of moving.

I would highly stress staying the last place for 5-7 days in a place where you don't have to do much. Just wake up, walk around, go to the beach maybe, and chill. Not try to see and explore new places.

I hear you but that's how we are gonna treat most of the places from Alba on. All of the drives after Florence aren't long at all. Quick drive then just post up and walk around for 2-3 days.

Only reason I am considering a day in Greve is so I can drink all day at the Enoteca and not have to drive. I know its probably a pretty easy day trip from Siena.

I'll turn the Greve Siena portion into Siena only. Have a little reset there before the BnBs in San Gim and Montalcino

My advice would be to pick one, or at the most two places in Tuscany and use that as a base from which to take day trips. Greve, Florence, Siena, San G. and Montalcino are all within an hour's drive of each other. I would rather not have to move from place to place in towns that are that close together, but that is just my opinion. Can't go wrong either way.

Unfortunately I just had to edit the post I made on page one. I have just been informed that the villa I recommended in Tuscany has been sold and is now being used as a private residence. I tried to book it for April of next year, but one of my favorite vacation destinations is no more. I will have to find a replacement. At least I have wonderful memories of my two visits there.

We've travelled in It and Fr a fair amount. Best experience in So. Fr was a multifamily reunion in Trémolat, Dordogne Valley. The river is great for canoe/kayak and many historical sites and parks, all well managed. Food and wine are outstanding. The region is famous for ducks, geese and truffles. Families with young teen kids stayed in farmhouse set up for tourists with a pool. There are many small hotels. The area is served by trail.

We really enjoyed our time in the Dordogne also. Duck, fois gras, canoeing. Riding bikes along the canal. It was a great trip.

I understand, but you also have a baby and a wife lol.

I've done adventures before also. Many times.

But you are also on vacation, to relax and rest to a degree. After 10-14 days, constantly moving around gets old. Your itinerary is solid to stay busy and see it all, do it all.

But what you don't have in there is rest days. Days to just do nothing but sleep in, get some breakfast, walk around, watch a movie in the afternoon, read a book, early dinner and bed.

Everyone says they don't need those, but most are lying.

With a wife and baby you will need to do laundry, reset, and work at a slower pace.

I'm by no means someone that says to stay in one place for a long time. Either way, looks like a great trip should be a blast.

Agreed on all accounts. Florence for 3 days (already been before) and Siena for 5 days should hopefully work as a reset before the last 3 stops.

The mistake I see is that you're "touching" a lot of places but not really stopping to smell the roses and get a feel for the places. It just looks like a whirlwind tour to me which is complicated by traveling with a young one. JMO.

Two nights at a destination seems ok until you realize that two of those days are travel days and you're really only spending one full day at a stop.
