I think you should be able to make that train. Both times at da Vinci they waved people with EU and American passports through customs.
They were way more concerned about the flight that had landed from Cario.
Very easy to buy train tickets on site, but Termini station is really big. It might help to familiarize yourself with the layout.

Not even close. The Leonardo Express alone takes 30 minutes. And that assumes he can catch one as he walks out. Which is unlikely.
OP, this is bad advice. You’ll ruin a chunk of your vacation if you try to make that train.

Its been said already, but there is absolutely no reason to pre book your ticket. The OP could land early, be the first flight in that morning from outside the EU, and rush through Customs for all we know to make an even earlier train then the one he posted. Its unlikely but we don't know and trains out of Rome are a dime a dozen its routine to book the day of.
I wouldn't sweat it and just buy tickets when you get there OP, there are like 3 trains an hour for most of the day.

As already stated, customs will get you. It wasn’t busy and we spent 20-30 mins in customs. It’s a 10 min walk to the express train to Termini station, and the train ride is 20 mins (plus any wait for the train). Plus you need to get your luggage.
You will call it VERY close.

I would not buy tickets in advance. You can attempt to hedge some time, but will probably end up taking the next train.

One more thing: you can easily buy your train tickets at Termini from an automatic machine, with English instructions. So if you’re worried about your Italian, stop worrying. Have enough cash (ATM at airport) to put into the machine, in case your credit card doesn’t work. (I have successfully used my US chip/no pin card in the regional train ticket machines at the airport train station, but I’m unsure if the ones at Termini are similarly US card friendly.)

I love how when you select English, at least at the Florence train station, the machine yells out "BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS!". Like hey, criminals, the dumbass tourists are over here!

Also, check and see which transportation unions are having strikes.
We've been in Europe and we simply couldn't get to Rome. No trains. Generally their strikes are in tourist off season times.
Termini. No. words.

I dunno, I find Termini less of a confusing mess than Gare du Nord in Paris. Although I was in Termini 7-8 years ago when David Beckham was in an underwear campaign for Armani, so Becks was plastered, one story high, on the interior shopping mall area, in his unmentionables. Pretty entertaining.
