Have any of you purchased Olympics tickets yet? Were you required to use a VISA card or can you use an AMEX/Mastercard?

Motherfrick. I tried and failed every level for World Cup. Didn't expect Olympics to have their first drop two years before the games even start and already missed the registration. Probably would have failed anyway but that's nuts.

I have not, but apparently tickets are limited and the prices are outrageous.

quote:

For major events like artistic gymnastics, swimming, track and field, and tennis — all popular Summer Olympic competitions — prices for finals or even preliminary qualifying rounds are at least in the $700 range and some soccer qualifier rounds start at $100.

For example, a track and field mixed final ticket, which includes the women’s 5,000m final, is $745, while a swimming event featuring the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay is priced at $1,116. Most other sports have limited, if not any, standard ticket availability.

I have a time slot next week. I did see where ticket prices are pretty high, but it don’t think you have to use visa, that’s just their preferred partner.

I got in Monday on the last locals presale drop. All the big medal events were gone. Swimming and Track were running about $1100 a ticket for medal events over $800 for prelims. There were some good prices for soccer and baseball. The opening ceremony wasn't an option but you could still get the most expensive level of the closing ceremony...

@sonicbaw350. Did you have to use a Visa card or were you able to use something else?

Same here. I thought it was perhaps some sort of fun redneck CenLa sporting event that I wasn't aware of.

My time slot starts tomorrow (April 10)

I've got my options listed for what events/sessions I want, but damn I wasn't expecting $700 per ticket

Yeah. I was surprised by the prices and the number of events already sold out. We were primarily looking for baseball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, sprints. Of those, baseball and some soccer were available but almost everything else I looked at was sold out.

And to answer my own question, no, you aren't required to use a Visa card.

I logged in today to buy tickets. All we are interested in is track, basketball, and swimming.

All men's basketball sessions were sold out, most track sessions were around $700/ticket and swimming was around $1,000 per ticket.

I didn't buy any. We have no plans to go, but if I could make the tickets work it would be a nice summer vacation for my kids to watch the Olympics in person. I will check the secondary market as the games get closer, but not looking promising.

Ya it sucks.

Much like skiing, it's probably cheaper to go to World Cup or Olympics overseas, factoring in all expenses.

Sucks, was looking forward to it for my kids at perfect ages but it's just absurd.
