With the heavy snow in Chicago this weekend, the missus and I decided to schedule a getaway at the beginning of March... Remembering all the positive comments about IM, helped make our decision... booked 6 nights at Hotel Secreto..

I look forward to scouring the older threads and picking out the recommendations!

Enjoy.

Treat Victor well and he'll take care of you. Great guy. He's your bartender and everything else. If you want lunch at the beach or pool just tell him what you want and he'll hop on his moped and go get it for you. Be sure to have him get the baked fish with achiote paste. Delicious.

Nice! North Garden and Ruebens are just a block or two away and great options for breakfast. Take some pics of Hotel Secreto. I know they just finished some renovations

All of Hidalgo Street is a five minute walk at most. Dopi’s. Fredy’s Tons of great places to eat. And cheap!

You and HGG got me started. I leave for my 3rd trip to IM in the past 18 months this Saturday. Secreto every time. Victor, Willie, Rojilio - all fantastic. Isla is awesome.

Glad you enjoy it. I was looking at flights earlier. I just had to cancel my big Argentina trip. Business is just too busy for a long trip so I’m thinking about a long weekend in Isla. Tell Victor jefe says hello.

Can y'all tell me a little more about this Hotel Secreto? Looked it up and only $140ish a night?

Make sure you take a taxi, or drive your golf cart to the south side of the island, and go to The Joint for a frozen Mojito and Mango’s Cafe for breakfast. Soggy Peso is also a great choice (I went on fajita night) and, if you’re brave enough, for one of their Margaritas. I also recommend North Garden for breakfast or lunch (their mimosas are great), Ruben’s, Rooster’s and many other great restaurants. While I was there, I found the best time to hit Playa Norte is in the morning before it gets really crowded. Also, you will experience some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets you’ve ever seen! I hope you enjoy this little slice of heaven!

Excellent advice.

Except. He has a private beach at Hotel Secreto. The staff will take chairs out and plant an umbrella for him in addition to providing food and beverage service. Playa Norte is a 2 minute walk around the point.

ETA: Hotel Secreto also will bring breakfast to his room every morning.

Thank you! I stayed at Sea Hawk right across from North Garden during my visit. I walked around the corner to Hotel Secreto and can see why you stay there, very nice hotel. I think next time I go, I might stay on the southside of the island.

Just got back yesterday from a 4 night trip for first time. Won’t be my last visit. Went 4 couples, stayed at Ixchel. Ate and drank like kings.

Water was cold Thursday, better on Friday. Went to both Joints, Soggy Peso, breakfast at Lola’s, and dinner at 3 different places that were recommended. All 3 were great.

Depends when you’re going. It’s more like $300 a night in February. Great little hotel and great service. I haven’t been back since the addition was done. The new elevator was active last year when I went. Stairs before that.

Stayed at Privileges Aluxes which I recommend. Nice hotel in good location - they have private section of main beach so you're still "in it" but won't be bothered by salesmen and always have seating available. They offer all-inclusive which I wasn't looking at having but it was so cheap that I took advantage and glad I did. Nice for a lazy day or two.

My favorite restaurants were Fuego de Mar and Limon.

Eat at Madera. On the Caribbean side and the food is incredible.

Is Na Balam closed?

Wife and I are going this June and trying to find a place to stay. Na Balam seems highly recommended but I can’t find any open dates for like a year out

End of June? If so, let's get together for a beer or 20.
