I’m jealous. Isla is where my retirement home will be.

Casa Tortuga?

Have them go to the main square and check out the largest dog they will ever see, his name is Bruno. He hangs out by the Churro maker guy.

Awesome spot. That pool is actually known for being an Instagram "model" hotspot for photos. You might consider joining them next time.

Looking for a getaway for ten year anniversary. Mexico has me scared shitless but is Isla Mujeres safe?

I'm not sure where to begin.

You're in a thread where at least three posters were on Isla Mujeres THIS WEEK. I left my wife and daughter behind to take a two hour ride up the coast to spend four nights on Holbox.

Don't you think that if any of us had any concern about that part of Mexico that we would have gone somewhere else and that I wouldn't have left my wife and daughter behind?

I go to Isla every year as does HGG. Many posters on this forum have visited the island without incident and every one of them highly recommends it.

You can always just vacation on the Redneck Riviera which is honestly, probably a more dangerous place than Isla Mujeres.

Which one do you like better. Holbox or IM? I am going to go with wife and kids next year and I am deciding on these two. Did Tulum last year but want to do something w the family and something not as pricey as Tulum.

Fair point. I just started researching so I’m
Sure I need to get over the Mexico stigma right now.

I haven't been to Holbox. I hear it's like Isla was 20 years ago. My family seems to be loving it.

CETiger. I get it. You've read the press. The bottom line is that anywhere you go can be dangerous if you're looking for the wrong things. I can go anywhere on Isla. I can walk any street. The thing I'm not doing is walking any street at 4 am or looking to score weed or drugs while I'm there. You can say the same thing about Italy, or France, or Spain or any country.

Personally, I'd be more worried about the DR than Mexico. Bad things are happening there at hotels that US tourists stay.

I'm glad to answer more specific questions about Isla. It's a jewel.

I'm here now. I'll write a trip report when we get back but for now I'll say this place is amazing.

Is there a best time to go to Isla Mujeres or maybe some months to avoid?
