re: Is Dublin a dangerous city?

Where did I say that? They certainly don’t have the murder rates of the US but you probably know that.
People who have to come here to ask if Dublin is safe probably shouldn’t plan a trip there.

Most of this board (Travel to a lesser extent) hits Mexico and 30A, over , and over again. The pussification of travel options is off the charts. If I have an option to not eat monkey brains, I'm taking it though.

I was there last month and it was very safe

Was in Dublin last year and had a great time. Most dangerous thing was crossing streets in the center of town. Most corners are crowded and crossing lights mostly ignored. Bicycles are more a danger than cars. Hospital ER was quite nice.

Take Memphis, Baltimore, New Orleans, and Detroit. Smash them together. That is Dublin.

Do tell! There's got to be a story in there.

If it's like Amsterdam the speed at which the bikes use the bike lane takes some time getting used to. One mistake and you're gonna be in pain.

Ouch. I thought it was funny that when my ex-wife worked for Shell they had their safety minute in a presentation about not biking while under the influence. I always warn people that go to Japan, you can't get away with just stopping while walking like people do in NYC, mama-san will run you the F over. Bike trauma doesn't seem like a big deal until you're the one getting wiped out.

The newest terror unleashed on the citizenry of Amsterdam is the beloved “fat bikes” (fat tire/frame electric bikes than can run high-speed with only throttle/no pedaling) - which are basically silent but deadly electric mopeds - often manned by a predictable demographic that only adds more malice and nuisance to an already dangerous two-wheeler…

I have a co worker that just got back from there this past weekend. He didn't say anything about danger. Other than worried his sons were going to get them beat up for laughing at their accents.
Now with the way Europe is destroying itself....a year from now is hard to tell.

White teenage boys? That's who are terrorizing people with those things on the Dallas bike paths.

What? Where are you hearing this?

What are some of you experienced Ireland travelers thoughts?
Ireland is a beautiful country. Dublin is a cool city, but I tend to spend more of my time elsewhere. My wife's family all lives in Belfast, and we tend to spend the majority of our time on the western coast and in N. Ireland (Giant's Causeway, rope bridge, etc). But we always fly into Dublin and spend a couple of days there with the kids.

It's all over. Riots over migrants being dumped in towns, given housing over the Irish, etc. It kicked off probably ten years ago. Surprised you haven't heard about it.
OP, do not order a Black and Tan in Ireland. And flying into Shannon (SNN) is an option too.

Ironically, something loosely akin to the fear mongered demographic of this thread.
That said, to that regard - in general fears of what the OP worries about in Europe come from sensationalist and exaggerated news sources.
Lived in Europe nearly 15 years, 11 of those in Amsterdam which by many accounts in “overun”.
I won’t pretend it hasn’t slowly gotten to feel a bit less safe over that span; that would be a disingenuous claim - nonetheless, I still feel a lot safer here than most parts of the US, for sure any of the same level of urbanization and for sure all of Louisiana - I’ll walk around most parts of the city at all hours of day/night without too much worry (dare anyone to say that about BR). Lastly , this marginally decreased sense of safety is certainly not all attributable to the demographics you might think (drunk and drugged up Eastern block types do a number on the city at times).
And furthermore, as stated elsewhere in this thread, in Dublin it’s indeed the local grown pasty Paddy types in Adidas track suits and murses you should be wary of rather than your “immigrant” types…

You can say that, of course, but people's experiences can be heavily influenced by which train stations they frequent, etc. If they go through places prone to protests like Trafalgar Square, etc. For instance, Brussels was mostly fine. I got on the tube every day at the train station that had been bombed, but as long as I didn't do something stupid like get off at Merode, it was mostly fine. But, 95%+ of the people that queued up at the welfare office near the UN were absolutely arabs. Funny, almost no Africans, even though there were a ton of Congolese in Brussels.
Buuut, there have also been terror attacks 150 yards away when I was in London, and that was before the rash of vehicle borne attacks in NIce, etc.
To be honest, Limerick was a bit shadier than Dublin, but that was probably due to the location of the hotel.

So Europe has had no issues with migrants and crime?

Sorry, no, it’s based on me actually being in many of these countries since the Syrian exodus.

AND...
We haven't even talked about lads on a stag do there yet.
In all seriousness for the OP, I haven't been. Had many friends visit and a co-worker that lives in Northern Ireland (Buncrana) that gave me a lot of information on a trip we were planning.
From what I learned from them, they loved Dublin. Lots of great pubs in the city center, Temple Bar is touristy and high prices. But, they felt going outside of the city to places like Galway was much better for getting a better feel for Ireland. It’s said that Dublin is the least Irish city in Ireland being as it was the seat of imperial British/English rule for so long.
