Has anyone had a problem getting their results in during the 72 hour window? Also, do you have to provide paper results or is an email on your phone good enough. I fly out on a sunday so I’m a little nervous about waiting on results on a weekend.

Didn't do international but Hawaii, I went on a Sunday for my rapid (PCR) test from Walgreens and had my results 2 hours later. They sent a link and I downloaded my results to my phone and took a SS. Then I uploaded everything into the Hawaii database and took a SS of that. Got the the airport and showed my QR code and it was good to go.

Easy Peasy. Just provide the documentation on your airline website as requested, have the QR code’s they provide on your phone and keep a copy of your test and the “ immunization “ card just in case. I just did all this without electricity and with intermittent internet . No problem and worst case scenario they will assist you at the airport.

We went to Cozumel in August. Tested 2 days before departure. The resort provided the testing for free on-site (they had a small room set up for testing.) The "Doctor" actually had a "tip jar" sitting on the table.

Printed out the results and also emailed them to us. American Airlines only required to view them upon check-in.

The doctor told us that he gets, "Maybe one positive every other week or so." -- I'm sure the results vary depending on tip size. I made sure to tip prior to tests completion and results were "known".

Don’t they have take home tests that are approved for international travel?

My wife claims this exists and she wants to bring some with us to Maldives so we can get back. I would assume it works the same to leave…depending on the country you flying into I guess

Yes, you can order them from emed.com. You have to get on a telehealth visit with one of their people when you do the test. It's a really easy process. You get 6 tests for $150. Your results are displayed in an app on your phone.

I think y'all may be confusing two different things.

The US government has approved some self tests for RETURNING to the US. I think the OP is trying to get a test for departure.

Anyway, tests within 72 hours were easy before delta surge since there wasn't a lot of people getting tested. So anyone talking about pre-delta turnaround times may not have relevant information. That's when I got mine done and it was returned within 24 hours. During the winter surge, wait time were much longer.

As for those self-tests to return to the US, a month or so ago the wait times for the remote observer became very long. It may behoove you to just figure out the local testing option. For me in Croatia, they had them come to my hotel which cost me all of 15 minutes of my day, and not 4 hours waiting by my computer for the self test.

I was not aware that was a requirement now?

For some places it is. I'm headed for Peru fairly soon and have to have a test within 72 hours which could be a bit tricky for a Tuesday flight. I've got an appointment at CVS on the Saturday before, and also bought an Amazon test kit for $40 that uses overnight UPS. And I plan to go Monday to the local health clinic for an instant test. And I'll probably do one other instant test if I can find one. I've got a lot of $ invested in this trip. When I went to Africa last fall I did 5 tests, 3 were in time, two were not.

Tigris already answered. I'm assuming OP's destination requires a test. The US doesn't have a departure test requirement. An airline may not allow you to board but that's because they don't want to be responsible for you when you can't enter the destination country, similar to not having the right visa or passport requirements.

Just looked back and it was $55 a person.

So basically nothing when considering the cost of a trip to Europe.

Heh, are you ready for double masks? I bought a couple of those mesh masks that are easy to breathe in and they'll be the bottom mask. The political turmoil is a bit more concerning, they do like their protests that shut down tourist areas. But, fack it all, I'm going.

I know you're probably going into the jungle and living with natives to take bird photos, but I thought the train ride to Machu Picchu and the area around it was pretty scenic.

I really didn’t think they would enforce things more than this country. When I booked this trip at the end of last year I figured covid would be over by now. I was debating pushing it back with this storm, but I need a break from reality.

I just googled that a Marxist won their presidential election last month. Hopefully he hasnt had time to implement too much already that civil war is about to break out

It's actually two organized group birding tours. I've already done the Amazon/Jungle/roughing it tour a few years ago. This is is for foothill/higher elevation stuff. The first covers the north on both sides of the Andes and includes the Kuelap ruins which are similar in scale to Machu Picchu. The second trip is the Cusco/Machu Picchu area and gets really high marks from everyone I've talked with. This seems like a really good time to do Machu Picchu without the crowds. In between I've got a few days in a different high mountain area near Cusco with a guide I met on the first Peru trip, he lives in Cusco and is a pretty cool guy. He's got a spot that's supposed to be very good for Condors up close.

Did you use Diamox when you went? Cusco is pretty facking high at 11,000 feet, though the first segment may help some with the altitude. From what I've read I can buy it in a pharmacy in the Lima airport. And of course I'll have to drink Coca tea.

They have been, though I really think it will mostly be at the airport, and restaurants until you are seated. And probably hotel lobbies.

Yeah, their Marxist president barely won on promises of moderation. And he's been appointing more Marxists since the election. There's a good chance his government will collapse. I think political protests will potentially be a much larger problem on this trip than covid, which is actually pretty low there.

I was trying to compare it with the home test. $120 for six or in your case, $110 for 2.

Our next spot charges $165 per person for them to arrange. We will probably go with the home test.
