Was just my wife's b-day and we love going bar hopping for such occasions. Obviously we're not looking for totally normal, and plan to be safe, but would like something at least closer to normal than Louisiana right now...at least places that have bars would be nice. Do these states have mask mandates? Just looking to see if there is anything out there worth a small weekend road trip right now. TIA

Alabama just issued a mask mandate this week, have to wear one when inside a business (but not while seated at a restaurant or bar). Everything else is pretty normal. Beaches are packed and bars are open.

In MS there are mask mandates in certain counties and cities. Was there a specific area in MS you were looking at?

Was possibly thinking Jackson...easy 4 hour ride and one of the only places in Mississippi I can readily think of. Any recommendations? Looking for something about 4 ish hour drive from Shreveport...will maybe go further depending on situation.

sounds horrible when you put it like that. But we would really just like to get to a place that feels somewhat normal.

There hasn't been anything "normal" about Jackson in a long time. I'd look elsewhere...

Thanks for the heads up. Honestly the more I google mid sized cities around me the more I realize none of them are..which I should have figured.

Anyone know a good podunk town somewhere in MS or AR with a few dive bars I can post up at? This seems like the most normal option at this point lol

If you're looking for under four hours from Shreveport why not Hot Springs or Little Rock area?

ETA: bed & breakfast in Natchez?

It was mentioned above, but we have some solid beach bars on the MS coast (BSL, PC, OceanSprings). It's a little further, but ten fold better than Jackson.

I dig the beach but my wife hates it...is there stuff to do other than the beach down there? Like I said I thin main thing were looking for is a place were we can walk around and go out and feel as normal as possible. Know this may be an impossible ask

Bay St. Louis has a lot of fun bars and is a quaint little town. You don’t have to go to the beach at all there to enjoy it.

Our beach isn't real pretty anyway. Bars and restaurants are open. Harrison county has mask mandates, but as of now, Hancock county does not. Walking around Bay St. Louis (Hancock) is great - several good restaurants and bars, right on the water and pretty much everything is currently open as normal.

Cool spot right next to bars/restaurants in BSL:
Bay Town Inn

I took a picture of Old Towne, which is a misnomer since it was destroyed in Katrina, right when the shite down started. Crazy to look back now, it’s very busy these days.

The Inn is just to the right out of the picture.

The shops aren’t on this street, they’re up Main just past the hotel that’s going up.

Vrbo/Airbnb’s all over this town (a few in the white building just past the old yellow theatre on the right). Try Hotel Whiskey in the Pass too.

Feel free to pass the rentals by me, I know where a bunch are...and some may be too far to be practical.

Oklahoma is in Phase 3 with no mask mandates

Broken Bow/Hochatown is a quick 2.5 hour drive from Shreveport.

A couple of breweries, winery, decent scenary, hiking, etc.

Its worth a quick weekend getaway.
